BETTER THAN QUANTUM OF SOLACE
There, I said it, and I make no apologies because it's true!

Well of course it is. It's better than quite a few of the other Bond movies.

While I don't like NSNA, I must agree. I'd watch this movie twice before even thinking of watching QOS again. Even with tons of goofy and stupid moments and action sequences, at least is ENTERTAINING, something QOS is not.
shareI haven't watched Quantum of Solace since theaters, but I did just recently watch Never Say Never Again and I must say that it is one of the worst Bonds in the entire series. Even the ridiculous films like Moonraker have more entertainment value. They have a spark of life to them and are fun, even if they are the most ludicrous plots and stunts imaginable. NSNA was cheap looking through and through, with disappointing/unimpressive effects, badly written characters that had no spunk, a terrible score, a boring retread plot, and was just overall flat and uninteresting in ever way. The ONLY person who came out of this film unscathed was Barbara Carrera. When she gets killed off in the film, there is nothing left to have fun with.
I need to revisit Quantum of Solace, but I just can't accept the fact that it could be any more devoid of entertainment value that the very bad NSNA was.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?
It may take 10 years, maybe even a 100, but one day you'll realize NSNA isn't so bad at all. In fact, that its pretty good.
But anyway, lets just say, for the meantime, that its much, much, MUCH better than QOS.
I doubt it. It's already had a few years and it always retains its badness for me. Even watched back to back with my least favorite Moore film, Octopussy, it was bad. It isn't even the lack of familiar Eon Bond elements that makes it unenjoyable. It's just a bland, unmemorable, uninspired effort on all levels. Barbara Carerra is the only one in this effort with any spark at all. The film could have been better written, better directed, better cast in many spots, and just plain better all around. As it stands, it's an utter dud in my book and I guess it always will be.
When we get to Quantum of Solace again in our Bond series viewing, I'll decide which is better, though I really didn't like that one very much either.

And I completely disagree still. NSNA is written with a witty spirit, directed elegantly whenever Kershner gets to do something with the story he wants to do, and that cast, besides Basinger, is really, really well put. Brandauer is probabaly the best Bond villain of that decade, if Sanchez (from LTK isn't), and that largely because of how the actor nuanced his performance and chose to present him as a psychotic who makes his stigma after a prolonged inner frustration. And Carrera is superb.
Whatever problem it might've had, they were solely because the project was a remake and couldn't deviate at all. EON was just so adamant for it to fail that it hurt it, in the process, making the third act completely formulaic.
I know for a fact that I saw QOS, but I cannot remember one thing about it. This one had a few cool moments.
shareThe ONLY good thing about NSNA is seeing Kim Basinger barefoot in one or two close-up scenes of her bare soles.
Don't mind these morons, Quantum of Solace kicked ass (especially the last part where Bond leaves Greene with a can of motor oil as sustenance in the hot desert. ) The people who are putting it down want gimmicky *beep* like NSNA, just like they want crap like Battleship-I hope that the Bond producers keep Skyfall in the same vein as Quantum of Solace, otherwise, the Bond movies will be as vapid as most other action movies.
If I had to rank the Bond bond movies starting at the worst, QOS is the #1 worst, where as NSNA is about #8. So NSNA is definitely better.
shareQuantum of Solace was just poorly made junk. NSNA is one of my lesser favorites but its far better than Quantum of Solace.
sharei just came on this board to post exactly the same as OP. this movie is weak as bond movies go but i still had more fun watching it than QOS! these guys should have been in charge of the reboot imo
shareWere you guys watching another movie called Quantum of Solace? there is no way NSNA is better than QOS. NSNA was by far one of the worst Bond films of all time a terrible rehash of Thunderball. It actually felt nothing like a Bond movie.
shareAgree about NSNA. However, in terms of pure entertainment, NSNA was more fun to watch. At least they TRIED to do something Bond-like, such as Fatima Blush, the motorcycle chase, etc., even if most of those attempts fell flat.
On the other hand QoS was, for me, too ponderous and deadly serious, without imagination, interesting locales, a good villain, or even enjoyable action sequences. Even the plot was dull (taking over water reservoires by...forcing someone to sign a contract). Technically or artistically perhaps QoS is better, but if I were forced to choose one of the two to watch again, I'd go with NSNA.
My Bond marathon finally came to an end and I at last revisited Quantum of Solace. It isn't nearly as bad as many make it out to be. In fact, it was quite a good followup to Casino Royale. It had a good story, and I really liked the secret organization that has infiltrated many top ranking government positions. Quantum was a really good evil organization because it was so hidden and because we only scratch the surface of it. Bond uncovered one cog in the machine and exposed their existence, but they are far from defeated. I hope to see more of the organization in future films. Anyhow, aside from it's very bad editing for the action scenes and the bad opening credits song, it was far better than Never Say Never Again managed to be. I have said it before and I will say it again, Fatima Blush was the ONLY aspect of this film worth mentioning, and once she is disposed of, the film has nothing left at all other than a yearning for the end credits. NSNA feels cheap from start to finish.

I liked Connery's performance in NSNA, I liked Largo, Fatima Blush and Domino. I hated the sound Track but the film reminsd me of a classic Bond film. I prefer it to Doctor.
This thread is delightful.
Anyone stating any other bond movie better than QOS is always good.
I hope most of this thread articipants even go as far as saying, any bond is better than Daniel Craig ;)
I know he IS good.
But he is simply not a bond as we grew up with.
Bigger-than-realitiy, gadgets and cliche any day over Craig
Verily I say untothee...QUANTUM OF SOLACE is the poorest made movie I have ever seen in every way possible.Truly, truly awful,NSNA for all of its many, many faults is the better movie.
shareQuantum Of Stupidity is the biggest pile of *beep* ever put to film. I'd rather watch Plan 9 From Outer Space than that stinker.
Overreact much? Neither NSNA nor Quantum of Solace are the "biggest pile of *beep* ever put to film." Get real.

NSNA and QOS are not even close to the worst Bond film, let alone the worst film.
Diamonds Are Forever, anyone?
I agree. Much better than Quantum Of Solace. The only Bond film (official or otherwise) where I thought I may not watch to the end. I did. Wish I hadn't bothered.
Quantum of Solace. Dull or no story. Awful title.
A boring villain, who is unintelligible most of the time. Bring back Robert Rietty to revoice him.
A boat chase which is so tightly cut that it makes the action meaningless as you can't tell what is going on. you lose all sense of direction and location in the chase.
The only good point was Bond's friend from Casino Royale, who died near some trash cans or something. He was the only standout.
Anything`s better than QOS.
