What are your favourite children shows of the generation?

reply

There was one with little toys, and when people were out of the room, they could move (not Toy Story). What is it?

reply

I think you're thinking of "The Christmas Toy." It was a Jim Henson movie with muppet-esque toys. Kermit was featured as Santa Clause. I haven't seen it in years, but I have it on VHS.

reply

no, it was a half-hour show. and if the toys were caught moving, the could never move again. the "lead" toy was a teddy bear, i think.

Here's a confession:

I got into Fraggle Rock when I was in college. That's right -- college.

I was too old when FR was first released to dive right in; I was thirteen, and everybody knows that when you're thirteen, such things as Fraggle Rock are "lame." (Yes, I was a very foolish teenager.) Then, when I was an undergrad, TNT picked up the show and I was glued to every episode. Kind of funny how we love things as kids, reject them as teens, and then fall in love with them again (or, in my case, for the first time) as adults.

So these aren't necessarily my favorite kids' shows I watched when I was a kid; they are simply my favorite kids' shows, then and now.

The Muppet Show (then and now)
Fraggle Rock (now)
The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show (and all shows airing classic WB cartoons) (then and now)
Animaniacs (now)
Freak-a-Zoid (now)
Darkwing Duck (now)
Jim Henson's The Frog Prince (then and now)
Jim Henson's Storyteller (now)
Justice League (now)
Sesame Street (then)
The Electric Company (then, though I confess to loving those new DVDs)
