What about The Great Space Coaster? This was an awesome 1980's morning children's live action/ puppet t.v. show that ran syndicated 7 years from 1980 to 1987. The show had puppets such as Goriddle Gorilla, Gary Gnu, Baxter The Clown, Edison Elephant, Knock Knock, The Bird, Evil Circus Ringleader M.T. Promises, Rockin with Rory ,The D J, Baffle ,the spiked green caterpillar magician from the planet blip, The Huggles, 4 small furball puppets named Fluffy, Puffy, Scruffy, and Baby Huggle, a human named Speedreader, and 3 human Teenage Singers in a rock band called The Spacecoasters named Frannie, Danny, and Roy. This show had many gentle skits, music videos, live footage segments, songs, cartoons, such terrific special effects, animation segments, and many lessons for for life for grade school children. The show also had many celebrity guest stars such as Sally Struthers, Bess Armstrong, "Mary" Kathleen Turner, Linda Gray, Aileen Quinn AKA "Annie", Valerie Harper, Mark Hamill, Richard Kiel, Henry Winkler, Dr. Joyce Brothers, Carol Channing, Charlotte Rae, Geri Jewell, Rock Steady Crew Dancers, Ice Skaters Tai Babilonia and Randy Garner, and Singer Karen Carpenter- May she always rest in peace in heaven. Please sign the bring back the great space coaster online petition @ www. petitiononline.com/TGSC because it now has 2,107 signatures. The Great Space Coaster Homepage @ www. great space coaster .com has recently been updated for 2006 with new pictures, video clips, a product museum, a bio page, a guest star page, and there is also much more information on the cast. Does anyone remember Frannie, the very attractive 16 year old brunette singer/guitar player/ female lead of the TGSC? She used to play many practical jokes on Puppet Goriddle Gorilla! Does anyone remember The Great Space Coaster being shown as reruns on Cartoon Network back in the year 1994? This was a classic live action/ 1980's puppet t.v. show! I emjoyed watching it as much as Fraggle Rock! The Great Space Coaster Puppets were created by Kermit Love, a former Muppet Designer, at his Great Jones Studios. The Great Space Coaster was Produced by Sunbow Productions and Claster Television. It sponsors were Keloggs Cereals and Hasbro Toys.It was a Non- Jim Henson Puppet t.v. show though. The Great Space Coaster had many Muppeteers that worked for The Jim Henson Company before and after the show's 7 year run back in the 1980's such as John Lovelady, Kevin Clash, Jim Martin, Noel Macneal, Pam Arcerio, and Francis Kane. Does anyone remember the anti- gravity day episode, in which everything in Coasterville including Frannie's guitar went flying up in the air!Let's get this classic 1980's t.v. show back into rerun syndication and on dvd for another generation to enjoy!

<< There's another show that had a family of mice in it and an annoying fly. Does anyone remember the name? >>

Is that the same cartoon that had two mice rolling the end credits with some sort of contraption?

Filmjack3 I completely forgot about the Gummi Bears, loved that show.

reply

I'm not completely sure if these were all in the age range stated but here we go:

Fraggle rock (obviously)
The Muppet Show
Bagpuss
The flumps
Ivor the Engine
Jamie and the magic torch
Thomas the tank engine
magic round about
James the Cat
Sesami street
Muppet Babies
Care bears
Postman Pat
Smurfs
Super Ted
Mighty Mouse
Inspector Gadget
Raggy Dolls
Scooby Doo
He-man
She-ra
Dungeons and Dragons
Thundercats
The Littlest Hobo
The Wombles
Worzel Gumidge (spell?)
Pigeon Street
Dogtaniane (spell)

I think that'll do for now, god I watched a lot of telly for only having 4 channels!

reply

how about pixie and dixie or Captain Kangaroo?

reply

I liked Pixie and Dixie. They were my favorite part of that USA Cartoon Express thing. I had a Captain Kangaroo record for some reason but never watched the show. hmm, what else did I like? This is all in random order as I think of them:
Sesame Street
Mr. Rogers
Fraggle Rock
Muppet Babies
The Muppet Show (although when I was born it was already all in reruns I think)
Square One Television
Danger Mouse
Count Duckula
Bananaman (a short on before Danger Mouse in Nickelodeon's early years)
You Can't Do That on Television
My Little Pony
Punky Brewster was on during this time period but I didn't get into it till I was like 10
Pee-Wee's Playhouse
Belle and Sebastian
I watched Pinwheel on Nickelodeon a lot but only because that was like all they used to show for 6 hours straight
some of Nickelodeon's "Special Delivery" specials
Looney Tunes (especially Tweety and Sylvester cartoons)
Alvin and the Chipmunks
the short-lived Pound Puppies cartoon was cool
Heathcliff
Care Bears (but more the old-old ones from before the movie came out with Professor Coldheart, not the Care Bears Family ones with Shrieky and Beastly and Cheer Bear with a ponytail.. that ponytail annoyed me :P)
I also liked random sitcoms when I was pretty young like Three's Company and The Facts of Life, and the Brady Bunch which was always on in reruns.. and a bit later Full House and The Wonder Years and all those

I know there's more but my mind is drawing a blank right now. A lot of Nickelodeon's like "golden years" shows started after I was 8 so I didn't list any of those. I don't remember when all those Disney shows started. I think Rescue Rangers was just starting the year I turned 8 because I associate it with 2nd grade, and Talespin was later than that and Darkwing Duck I never liked but that didn't start till I was 12 or so anyway I don't think. I also liked things like Tiny Toons (which I think just started when I was 8 too) and Animaniacs (10 or 11 when it started). I tried to stick to the 80s since I turned 8 at the beginning of 1990.

reply

I was fond of Today's Special, The Electric Company, Hilarious House of Frightenstein (of course in reruns when I was a child), You Can't Do that On Television, Switchback, Mr. Dressup, Mr. Rogers, Jem, He-Man and She-Ra, GI Joe, Care Bears and My Little Pony.

Yes, I am Canadian!!

What about The Littles?

reply

Heh, I have a book of the Littles. I mean it's in the basement in a cabinet with all the others.

I also watched Wheel of Fortune and Dukes of Hazzard alot.

What the heck was this one show, I think it was a mouse, and usually there'd be a scene from a rooftop, with a doorway, and wooden crates and boxes around it, and a view of the moon and stars in the background. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Hey guys what was the name of that one show that had a family of Dinosaurs??? It was either on the Disney Channel or Nickelodean and thats all I can remember. Oh and I dont know if this helps at all but I remember an episode where the father Dinosaur took someone for a ride in his car and started singing ,"tie a yellow ribbon round an ol' oak tree".. sorry if thats not much to go on but its killing me since I cant remember the name...lol

reply

So some of you are from the UK and maybe you know what the heck I'm talking about. It was on in the early 80's I'd say 84-85ish, I remember watching trap door and this other VERY VERY short cartoon, with two little clay dudes. One was green with black hair and one was yellow with black hair and they never said a word. They seemed to live in almost prehistoric times? Maybe. But I thought I remembered seeing a short where they make a wheel. Whatever they did, one of them always messed it up for the other, and everything went horribly wrong. Any idea as to what on earth it is I'm thinking of? B.T.W. I didn't see anyone mention Gummi Bears or The Reading Rainbow. SHUT UP! I KNOW! But I *loved* that show when I was younger!! I don't care how cheesy it was or what children were molested on the show!! Haha

reply

OH OH!! AND AND!! Under The Umbrella Tree!!! Hahahaha Scary...

reply

was that the one with the baby who always said not the mama? and hit people with frying pans?
