I was 11 and I thought it was awesome but my mom said that she thought it was confusing(then again it was like 2:00 in the morning when we decided to watch it and she was falling asleep)It's one of my favorite movies. When I tell people this they're like, What movie is that....they never even heard of it...But, whatever. I still love this movie!!

I was 11 or 12 and loved it. There is just something endearing about this story. I wish to hell I had been able to read the book first.
shareO yeah, there's a book isn't there. I'm going to go look for it at a bookstore. Probably not a lot of 15 year old girls who want to read the World According to Garp,(probably too busy reading the latest seventeen magazine....too bad, I read it ages ago) but hey. I hope it's better than the movie.

18. I only watched it all the way through a few nights ago. Fantastic movie! I would hate to have Glenn Close's character as a mother though...
shareI was 10-12ish too. I think I probably saw it on a rented VCR (ah, the early 80s!). I haven't seen it in MANY years and it came to mind today when someone on a news comment board said "ah, the world according to Cheney" or something.
I'd really like to see this again, but for some reason these old movies are never played on the cable movie channels. I donno why not since I don't think they're at the top of the DVD/rental market. This movie, like many others of the era just remind me of those sweet 80s growing up! MMM, so good!
Maybe I gotta get a netflix account or something.
I was 25 and saw it at a drive in with my older sister and her baby son who was about 6 months and cried continually during it.
shareI was 6 or 7 and saw it when it first came to cable. Didn't understand it obviously, but I was amazed when Garp bit the dog's ear off and sad when he was shot at the end.
shareI was 11 years old. Just saw the movie again last night on HBO and left me with the same feeling just as it did then. I still thought it was thought-provoking and overall a very good movie. Brings back memories of going to the movies weekly, in a theatre, with my family, when studios were still making good movies. Not like nowadays when almost every movie is a remake.
