Is it me, or is Gary really creepy?

I mean, come on.

He walks into the ice cream place and basically leers at Karen.
Because of this, I now know what term leering means (thanks Gary).

Later, he lets the air out of her tires so he can give her a lift to school, a move a young Ted Bundy would certainly appreciate.

He then goes to a party and starts drinking JD straight right outta the bottle, long before Slash made it fashionable to do so. - I also like the fact that his buddy then leads him to his own car after he is clearly wasted, in order to drive himself home - whatta friend.

Not to mention he's the one doing all the measuring in the 'one with the biggest tool wins the pool' pool.

Even Ruby the whore thought he was a creep.
I can't blame her.

Yes, I agree, he was very creepy. There was just something not quite right about him. And, also, what I thought was a little disturbing was that both of them went back to his dead grandmother's house to um...

That is the last place I'd take someone even if they were hiding out until the abortion was over. Gary could have thought of some other place. Not only did I think it was sick but a little disrespectful.

That joint probably smelled like cigarettes, mothballs, and piss.

LOL

reply

Well I'm sure that the dead grandma smell, coupled with the fact that she just had an abortion, probably ruled out any kind of fun that night.

Uh, yeah, he slept on the couch. He was a needy, sad sack bastard. That's why she went for Rick.

And now, Anna Kournikova being spanked. (Whack) Bad Anna (whack) Bad Anna.

him creeping around the football field looking for Rick and Karen was what was creepy. he was trying to hear Karen get her cherry busted

I tried to like Gary more and did feel sorry for him and he seemed like a "nice guy", but he just wasn't that likable! And he did seem like one of those future serial killer types. Ted Bundy was studious, shifty, and high-strung like the Gary character, too

Finding out where a girl lives (doesn't he pay David for this info?), letting out the air out of her tires so he can drive her to school is rather creepy.

It's the bad acting

Nice guys who do not know how to talk to women can come across as a little creepy since they are in their heads so much they wait too long to take action.

Lol, I remember watching this film as a kid and I thought to myself, "Wow, this guy is a loser." I just watched it again recently and after all theses years I would have to say yes, not only is Gary a loser but a creepy stalker as well. I don't know why he never had the balls to just talk to her. His buddy who was getting all the ass (hell, even the fat dude was getting more ass)wasn't shy at all. At the end after his buddy doesn't want anything to do with her, Gary totally plays Captain Save-A-Hoe and tries to move in on her and then busts out that he loves her, very creepy. No wonder she didn't want to be with him at the end.

The first time I saw this movie, I thought Gary was just a nice guy who didn't know his way around the ladies. On future viewings, he seems awfully obsessed with Karen, and puts too much effort into setting up schemes, drinking JD straight, etc. I can definitely see how people might find him a little off kilter at times, but there are a whole lot of people like that who aren't going to rape/murder/pillage.
