Totally over rated movie

I did not watch the movie when it was released in the theater or on media. Today I finally watched it. It is horribly done in direction, writing, and acting. If you watch it again I will bet you won't think it is quite as good as you remember it. There is a reason for this because it is so weakly delivered. It is your memory of the film that gives it such a high score. This is not a classic film because it does not stand the test of time. It is now a B-film at best.

You are an idiot, and posts like yours become more and more irritating every time I see them. The movie is anything but overrated, it's extremely underrated these days. Try Harry Potter movies if you're looking for overrated crap!

Agreed, very overrated. It's just a boring movie with a bunch of annoying characters.

And to all those who say I don't have a childhood, I'll say that my childhood is perfectly fine without E.T.

Totally agree it's 5/10 from me. I found it pretty boring and was expecting much more, the music was awesome though

The OP is the biggest troll ever.

The movie IS a classic and has aged extremely well. It's not our memories that make it a good movie, it's the movie itself that makes it a good movie.

And it's classic because it's not only was it and still is praised by every critic, but has been seen by generations and generations.
It has been selected for preservation in the U.S National Film Registry, and it frequently appear on lists of movies you must watch , as well as list about the best moves ever .
That's why it's a classic.

Just because you don't like it, it doesn't make it a bad movie.

Pff, pathetic troll. Now go disturb someone else.

Agreed, kind of overrated, maybe that's because I never watched it as a kid and saw it for the first time when I was 20.
some of the films I like right now are the ones I watched in my childhood and now I realize a few of them are a bit overrated but still my favorites.
E.T. is definitely a good and important movie that inspired a lot of filmmakers but it's not THAT great and I think 7.9/10 seems like a fair score.
The greatest thing about E.T. was the ending that made you ignore some flaws in the movie.
In movies similar to E.T. I think the greatest one ever made is The Iron Giant.

Maybe you think that Adam Sandler movies are better? Or can you tell us if there are ANY movies that are true classics, if not "E.T."?

"Star Wars" & "Raiders of the Lost Ark" for example.

I never ceases to amaze me why "E.T." has earned it´s classic status.
It´s sappy, manipulative and full of annoying characters.

If you enjoy it. fine !
congratulations, you´re even in the majority.

Even as a kid I couldn´t stand it .
And many others also can see what´s wrong with this movie.

not every film you love has to be perfect.
and this one certainly is far from being perfect.

You're evidently a pathetic troll who likes crap films. E.T. is a classic and no one can argue that. Get off of this board and get a life!

get some *beep* manners

reply

Completely disagree. I don't think you would know good acting, writing, or directing if it kicked you in the ass. Because this movie's just as amazing as it was when I was a child. The children themselves in the movie were outstanding for their ages!

E.T. will ALWAYS be a classic....whether you like it or not. I personally feel it's Spielberg's best.

"But it's a ROCK!"
"I KNOW IT'S A ROCK!"
