Favorite Episode?

One of my favorite episodes is the one where Dick hosts Good Morning Vermont and his guest is the owner of the worlds smallest horse. Then people start calling in to claim that they have a smaller horse. Does anyone remember that one? What are your favorites?

reply

Even though I hated to see the show end .......... my favorite epsiode was the season finale when Bob Newhart woke up and Suzanne Pleshette was in bed.

reply

You know, I loved all the episodes mentioned above. But the finale was my favorite.

The Halloween episode was definitely one of my favorites. And the episode where Larry and the Darryls first show up (mentioned above) is another, which I believe was in the first season when Dick tries to get a dead body (buried in the basement) removed from the inn/house.

reply

OMG! I remember that, lol!!!

I'll give him 20 more minutes-and that's it!- Airplane!

You mentioned several episodes that are not usually mentioned, such as This Blood's for You, Chimes They are Changin, Murder at the Stratley, and Support Your Local Shifflet. Great episodes!

As someone who watched this the first time around, I'm watching it on ME TV and I was very disappointed watching the episodes.I knew what the problem was (and TG they didn't cancel shows after 2 episodes back then!). Casting was off. This happens frequently on shows.A character signed for 3 episodes connects with the audience and becomes "Spike" on Buffy the vampire Slayer.
Then suddenly Season 3/Episode 1 - It all jelled. It was a vast improvement when they settled on "Stephanie" and Michael. A little juggling and the show became a gem. But comedy doesn't become a magical mix till the right people are together. A show like Empire can attract an audience quickly. But comedy shows need more than 3 episodes. Timing and chemistry is everything. i thought Robin Williams' last TV show was very funny.I liked it immensely and was sure it would stick around.

"Take Me to Your Loudon" from season 6. The Holloween party episode where Michael is broadcasting War of the Worlds and the whole town believes it's real.

reply

Funny you mention that one, because it's my favorite episode, too. Dick starts challenging the callers to show up with their horses. One guy shows up with a regular sized horse, and one lady shows up with a basset hound.

Another one I like is when Dick gets sued for plagiarism. There's a trial, and Dick wins on the basis that pretty much anyone could have written what he wrote.

reply

I've been rewatching them with WGN playing them, and "Vermont Today" (the one with the horse contest) is by far the funniest one I've seen so far. I laughed so hard I cried when the basset hound came out and the owner argued with Dick about whether it's a horse or not. Great stuff!

reply

Larry's near death experience when he kept referring to God as "Tootie" because he said he looked like Tootie from "The Facts of Life".

reply

My favorite is either 'The Boy Who Cried Goat'- Kirk's lie detector test "According to this he's in a coma"
or 'Ricky Nelson, Up Your Nose'-Larry,Darryl,and Darryl getting into the cafe "Why did all 3 of you go down the chimney?"

Almost all of them are amazing

I love the Halloween episode,as many others have said.

Another one not mentioned is when William Windom plays an old teacher of Dick's comes back to teach a typing class. Windom treats the class like little children, telling them to put their heads down on the desks!

reply

I loved the William Windom one, too. Looney Brooney!

Class member, when they're ordered to put their heads down: "Mr. Brooney, did you notice I put my head down first?"

I also cracked up when he passed out the dittoed paper copies and told them not to sniff them. Of course, Dick did and got called out for it.
