Are there still military high school academies around?

I remember seeing this movie in a theater when this came out in the early-1980's.

But my question is...are there still military preparatory high school academies such as the one seen in this movie? There does not seem to be very many where I live (I'm in Northern California), as much as there used to.

Yes

Yes, and more specifically the school that was used in this film: Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, PA.

Still runs to this day.

The way I understood it the Vietnam War saw a noticeable drop in military school attendance and, as a result, the closing of several military schools. Despite that, though, there were still military schools that remained open (the Marine Military Academy in Texas being one) and thrived. The only difference between the military schools of today and those of yesteryear is today's military schools are no longer "reform schools for the very rich".

There's also the Mildred S. Butch Academy.

Yes, there are still quite a few around, especially down here in the South, which has always been the most military-oriented (and, in my humble opinion, patriotic) part of the country. Not all of them, however, are "live-in" academies like the one portrayed in the movie. I myself went to and graduated from an all-male Catholic military school in Savannah, GA called Benedictine Military School. Its been there since 1902 and for the last several decades has had around 400 cadets at any one time.
