Hill's best movie?

Southern Comfort isn't my favourite Hill movie...48 hours is my fav.

But I do think if you had to pick out one movie that best represents Hill's work, Southern Comfort would be it.

The stylized action, the theme of being out of one's element, the different, arhectypal, male characterizations, the societal comment...it's pretty much the perfect Hill film.

I love this damn movie.

why shoot the breeze about it, when you could be about it

The Driver is his best, but Southern Comfort as well as Hard Times are also really, really solid. Unfortunately, the rest of Hill´s work that I´ve seen, isn´t quite up to par with these three numbers.

What else have you seen?

The Warriors, 48 Hrs, Brewster´s Millions, Johnny Handsome.

Between writing that post and now, I also saw The Long Riders which is considerably closer to the top 3 than those bottom 4.

Both The Warriors and 48 Hours are fantastic. The former is Hill's best-known and most iconic movie, while the latter is one of the most influential films of the 80s.

I'd recommend Streets of Fire to any burgeoning Hill fan, but I'm leery based on preferences. It's a must though for Hill fanatics.

Add his screenplay for The Getaway and his work on the Alien trilogy, and this maverick could do no wrong...for a while, at least.

The visual style of The Warriors is as sophisticated Hill as ever, but it´s incredibly cheesy and campy with all that ridiculous macho posturing, silly dialogue and stuff. And I liked 48 Hrs a lot more when it reappeared a few years later starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover (so, yes, undoubtedly influential).

I´ll try to see Streets Of Fire, thanks for the recommendation.
