Hill's best movie?

Southern Comfort isn't my favourite Hill movie...48 hours is my fav.

But I do think if you had to pick out one movie that best represents Hill's work, Southern Comfort would be it.

The stylized action, the theme of being out of one's element, the different, arhectypal, male characterizations, the societal comment...it's pretty much the perfect Hill film.

I love this damn movie.

why shoot the breeze about it, when you could be about it

... is Johnny Handsome. He has lots of good ones, but that by far outstrips everything else.

Can you imagine any director with as hot a streak as Hill had from the mid-70s to the mid-80s? I suppose Spielberg is equal. And both had their streaks stalled by a grand comedy that bombed, even though Brewster's Millions and 1941 were both great movies. I think Hill has stayed more true to his roots, though, most recently with Broken Trail. In my mind, he hasn't helmed a bad movie. And he's been the force behind so many other favorites. Basically, if Walter Hill's name is on it, I'm buying a ticket.

If we all liked the same movie, there'd only be one movie!

John Carpenter, who also happens to be the filmmaker most comparable to Hill.

Okay, I can go along with that. And throw in marrying Adrienne Barbeau, and I'd say Carpenter was a happier man!!!

I wish he'd come up with a good project these days, though. Except for his Masters of Horror segment, I've not really liked anything since Vampires.

Certainly up there with The Long Riders..."we never should've left Missouri..."

Hill has directed quite a few classics. Among ny favorites are Southern Comfort, 48 Hours, Crossroads, Johnny Handsome and an episode from Tales From the Crypt called Cutting Cards. However, my favorite Hill movie of all time is without question The Warriors. You will notice that he uses alot of the same actors in more than one of his movies like Brion James in SC and 48H and David Patrick Kelly in 48 HRs and The Warriors.

The Long Riders, The Driver, The Warriors, Southern Comfort and Johnny Handsome are my favourite of Walter Hill's. I'll keep my fingers crossed, he has (at least)one more film left in him that could proudly join this elite group of classic cinematic entertainment.

To me, Southern Comfort is perfect. From the pace, score, cinematography to the reat paranoia and tension that the cast brought out of the script... genius. Lot of love for Extreme Prejudice, and... well, almost anything. There are blips of gourse, and although I enjoyed them all, his constant milking of the 48hrs concept is getting silly... I was bored with it after Red Heat, and his new one with Stallone seems to be the same again. I'd like to see director's cuts of Supernova and Another 48hrs though. As for his worst, I have little love for Undisputed, it's just a mess of a film. Oh, and notice nobody's mentioned Last Man Standing??? Soo forgettable...

This film is seriously underrated.

It's an engrossing and chilling piece that always moves along briskly but without being rushed. One of my all time favourite films and definitely Hills best.

It's definitely one of his best. The Warriors is still my favorite Hill movie
