Dragging from the truck?

Small thing that I notice upon every watch.....
I don't quite get what he did with the whip to hang on to the underside of the truck. The shot always looks confusing to me. Along with the little *plink* sound effect, it seems like he just sticks the handle of the whip upward and it magically sticks to the underside.
Not a big deal, just something I always notice and can't figure out

You just described what he did, why would you be confused?

Also it was established that Indiana Jones takes place in a fantasy universe so they don’t have to follow the laws of nature that our universe does.

What did I describe?

The handle magically sticks to the underside?

If you didn't actually have a real answer, you certainly didn't have to write anything lol

🤣

He put glue on the whip so it would stick to the underside. You must have missed that part

Indy's whip has a wrist loop on the end (which you can see in the very first scene when one of the Peruvian guides pulls a revolver on him). You're meant to believe he hooked the wrist loop around a protruding metal part on the undercarriage of the truck. They don't show it clearly (maybe because there was no such part in reality), but that's what's implied. The sound effect is just one of those movie things they added.

Ah, makes more sense!

The quick shot of the whip wasn't very clear. Thanks!

I always thought he wedged the handle into a narrow gap. Since the handle is straight and rigid, if you put it into a gap from the front, when you pull down/back on the whip it wouldn't come out, since the pressure at that angle wouldn't pull it forward and out of wherever it was wedged into.

Same. The whip is narrow while the handle is clearly three or four times the size.

I doubt a loop on the handle would support his weight.

I'm thinking this is most likely

A trick like that is childs play (as the other replies show) compared to the numerous times he throws the business end at {whatever} and ties a knot round the {whatever} usually to use whip as a tarzan rope swing.

I bet there's a scene where he pulls a pistol out of someone's hands using that method, and if there isn't Spielberg missed a trick because that would be f****g cool , albeit basically impossible.

reply

i think he just whipped their hand, which made them drop the pistol
