CBS to show iconic movies on Sunday nights to fill the coronavirus shutdown void

https://tvline.com/2020/04/07/cbs-sunday-schedule-changes-indiana-jones-movies-full-list/

For five straight Sundays starting May 3, CBS will show iconic movies from its corporate sibling Paramount Pictures' library, starting with Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. “It’s a five-week programming event with epic films, iconic stars and brilliant stories that viewers love… and love to watch together,” said Noriko Kelley, CBS Entertainment's executive vice president of program planning and scheduling. On May 10, CBS will show Forrest Gump, followed by Mission: Impossible on May 17, Titanic on May 24 and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on May 31.

I wouldn't call Last Crusade "Iconic." Sean Connery's appearance was the only redeeming thing about that movie.

To you perhaps, but I'd be willing to bet that an honest poll of 1000 Indiana Jones fans will pick Last Crusade very close to Raiders, Temple considerably behind both, and Crystal Skull a mile down from the first three.

If Raiders is iconic, then the first three all are.

That's nice.

reply

Well said.
Only thing, crystal turd should not even mentioned with the trilogy.
It's as Indiana Jones as Rise of Skywalker is SW.

reply

No offense but I'd rather just watch movies without ads interrupting every scene, thank you. Also since it's on CBS they'll censor a lot of scenes of those movies. Which I also don't like.

reply

I don't think I've watched a movie on network TV in 10 years. I could deal with the commercials since I can just DVR and fast forward, but the editing and censoring make them not worth the watch for me.

Indiana Jones is iconic 😉

Quarantine has revealed that TV is the worst way to watch classic movies -- but not a bad way to have a communal experience

https://melmagazine.com/en-us/story/quarantine-has-confirmed-network-tv-is-the-worst-way-to-watch-movies-but-also-kind-of-the-best

CBS recently bringing back the CBS Sunday Movie shows just how terrible movies can look on commercial TV, yet the franchise offers a communal experience for its viewers. "Watching Raiders of the Lost Ark chopped up with periodic interruptions for commercials would be a lousy way to see it for the first time," says Keith Phipps. "But for the umpteenth time? Why not? And why not get on social media and chat about the experience? It’s a truly terrible way to watch a classic film, but not a bad way to hang out under quarantine conditions."

Great idea

TV channel gets revolutionary idea:

"Lets show movies to entertain people on a sunday"

Wow. I dont where they pulled that one from , thats some blue sky thinking right there. I can see that going down a storm...
and they're in a perfect position to expodite their plan too - what with being broadcasters already!

Wont be long before some of the other media distribution outfits start copying them and saying "Hey , thats a great idea we could show movies too - people will really dig that"

I bet some will even go one further and show them on other nights of the week too - which would be groovy
