Alien meets Red Dwarf

Heavily influenced by Alien, Red Dwarf was heavily influenced by this.

If this was in the same cinematic universe as both, it wouldn't surprise me.

Director Peter Hyams tried to shoot it like Ridley Scott would. It looked nice, but he just couldn't quite reach how good Ridley Scott can make a shot look. Both Ridley and his brother Tony were masters of making every shot look interesting.

Although, Tony's Beverly Hills cop 2 was a bit forced to the point of annoying as he tried to make everything too interesting. Once you notice the whirling fans casting shadows and smokey rooms in every other scene you can't unsee it, as well as the blinds casting shadows with stark light through the window. Watch the first two Beverley Hills cops back to back and the difference in look is jarring.

And Ridley Scotts 1800s period piece "The Duellists", great film and looked good, but didn't look quite as good as Kubricks Barry Lindon.

The Jupiter system mining and general look and feel certainly seem to have influence on Red Dwarf. I've always liked this movie and I've loved Red Dwarf since season one came out.

Yes, BHC2 is so different to BHC in its visual styling. I wish they had stuck with director Martin Brest for that sequel but he passed on it for some reason. He went on to make Midnight Run which is fantastic.
