Every girl that has seen this movie or sees it when I let them borrow it always end up disliking it. Never even saying the art or the fringeness of it was good or at least respecting it. They always seem to hate it and say the usual that it degrades women and shows them as slaves to men. I really don't remember seeing the "slave" part. I'm convinced that these girls just turn the show off after "DEN" and don't watch the rest. These girls do realise that the final story has a WOMAN save everything and shows her as strong and heroic right?
They tell me how unrealistic this show is. Well I guess all other movies are totally realistic right? I was always under the impression that all women had gigantic breasts and that everything in the movie was just "normal behaviour".......lol
I loved heavy metal and i'm a female. The first time I watched it as like 12 or 13, this was before i could get my hands on real porn, so that was part of the enjoyment for me. I loved the Stories and the animations. The only thing is it was it wasn't until i turned like 17 that i saw the the movie all that way thought . I used to play it then when my mom would come home i would pop the vhs out of the machine. Actually i kind would like to read the magazine which i never have.
I can understand why some women might not like it. In some of the stories it's degrading to wards women. But Tarna(sp) kinda makes up for all of that in my opinion.
I am a woman....was a young teenager when the movie came out and LOVE this cult classic. But I can see why it is a problem with women. First..why do I like the movie? I LOVE the soundtrack and I beg anyone to go out and get it! Second, the animation is very good, interesting plot stories..basically good vrs evil plot lines. and over all, like a train wreak, it compells you to watch like the glowing green orb!
Problem is the all women, heroine and anti heroine are drawn like Playboy models. Every scene will have a peek a boo slit of skits or glimpses of panties etc... As for the men in the cartoon.....Henry Canyon? Nice ordinary guy but kinda of slobbish! The heroine just automactically jumps into bed with him without even knowing him? (sorry guy, I don't give out to a guy until I can somewhat trust him...and even that isn't a sure thing!) Where are the drawings for the ladies? and I'm NOT talking bout chest muscles!!
I did like the heroine story of Taana but once again, chick in G-Strings and leather but could kick ass! I don't take the movie in a serious femdom mode! It is a fantasy (sexual or otherwise) and I use to buy and hide the Heavy Metal magazines as a teenager so I knew what I was getting into when I saw it. Again...see this thing in HD---3D even better!!

She seduced him, and used him, even tried to kill him.....
Yeah...I know...and he did act like a gentleman somwhat (not jumping on her bones first---she made the first move) But since she was the seducer---just sleeping with him immediately--I would think he would be somehow a little wary of her intentions.
Again on the nudity score--when he vaporized her in his taxi---why do we get a last minute shot of her nude body? and not done with any of the male characters?....I still would have liked to see a little male skin.
Were you sleeping through the "Den" sequence, sweetie? Den's practically naked the whole time, and if it's a brief flash of cartoon penis you wanted to see it's there in the transformation scene.
Is that when the 13 year old geeky teenage brainiac is abducted into another dimension and you see him flying around naked showing off his twig like penis?
Most straight girls are threatened by another female whether she is real or a fantasy like this movie. These are fantasy girls and are not a threat of any kind but this is just how women react. Watch the movie but don't give a honest opinion about how any those animated women look around a girl or you will be in for a long fight or a long period of silence after the movie. Trust me!

I'm a girl and the first time I saw this movie, I didn't like it. But it was more because it didn't make sense to me. It seemed like something made by stoners for stoners and/or teenage boys. But I've come to like it a little better now. I like "Harry Canyon"( I like the noir-ish of it) "B-17" (This one is my favorite!) and "Taarna" (Pretty cool chick. I just wish they gave her some dialogue) I also like the songs "Takin' A Ride" and "Blue Lamp".
