A neglected classic; people's hatred for it is beyond me

And I've only just recently seen it for the first time. A lot of people talk smack on this movie, which I honestly don't understand— I bought the Blu-ray on a blind buy and was surprised at how subtle, spooky, and totally atmospheric this movie was. So why so much hate? Is it just because of the lack of killer motive? Not that much gore? I really just don't understand people's beef with this film. There are so many brilliant sequences and the empty campus setting they captured is scary enough on its own. It ranks up there with Just Before Dawn as "forgotten classics" for me.

I love the the atmosphere!, yeah the acting and dialogue are very poor but that's a given in 80's slashers.

Watched it recently for the first time.I love slasher films and even bad slasher films but this was terrible. It felt like i was watching a college film class rip off of Halloween.

It's about expectations. It is a horror movie without much horror and a rando killer without motive or personality. You could ditch the killer and have characters randomly drop dead and it wouldn't change the story. The character driven stuff was well done but there was too much filler. Kinda like Black Christmas which has a good opening then an hour or movie of pointless college drama.
