Horrible

Is there any sane person out there who thinks that this movie is as horrible as I do? I rented this movie because I'm a Jeff Bridges fan and because of the raving reviews about the movie on this website. I'm totally irritated I wasted 2 hours of my life watching this crap. I won't be so gullible as to rely on these hack reviews next time. Absolutely horrible movie. But I'm still a fan of J. Bridges.

So now, what? You're wasting more of your life by talking about how much time of your life has been wasted? Go now, and have yourself a great life.

Are you MAD? I'm sorry, but there's no way that you could seriously describe this very fine film as "horrible". "Shanghai Surprise" is horrible. "Cutter's Way" is absolutely one of the best American films of the 80s.

This film isn't about plot and story. It's about people and the behavior at that place and time. The plot is somewhat secondary to the character study. The pace, lighting, mood, music, and setting are encompassing and if you're not into that, then you'd probably hate the movie, I agree. I love it. The acting is wonderful, the dialogue and character study is unique and thought-provoking, and I LOVE seeing the location shots in beautiful Santa Barbara and Santa Monica (Pier) of that time gone by. Southern California will never look like that again...

Right.

Guess I'm insane too. I love this film, have watched it repeatedly for over 25 years.

It's not the best film I've ever seen, but it's certainly not the worst!

I LOVED the ending.

"...the young man would love it too, but he can't afford it."

One of the most memorable endings of any film I've seen in recent memory. I can only imagine the impact for those seeing this in the theater.

How anyone can call this film "horrible" is beyond me, but I guess it's not for everyone, which generally means it's for me. I loved this film for the fine characterization and overwhelming sense of bleakness, but maybe that's just me.

It's not just you, WR. This movie is, without a doubt, an overlooked classic.

Then go watch Scooby Doo.....GREAT flick.....

I TRULY MISS STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN!

You're an idiot.

I think Cutter's character is what makes the movie so compelling. I guess one could make a case for it being a "bad" movie, but despite that, I found myself unable to stop watching it because of John Heard.
