Did this solidify Stephen King’s career?

Stephen King was already a successful author, and the Carrie adaptation a few years before The Shining was already a big success, so did the success of The Shining solidify Stephen King as the master horror writer, and would we get all the King film adaptations of the 1980s to now had The Shining not also been a big hit?

I don't think the film was a success in 1980. At least in the US. It's only years later it became considered a classic.
