Then DID turn it off after the second. The boxing in this movie is so retardedly unrealistic I couldn't take the movie seriously. The fighters look like bobble head dolls standing their with their hands down taking turns letting their opponent punch them as many times as they can in the face.
How is this movie rated so highly? I'm by no means a purist when it comes to portraying sports on screen, but this was laughably stupid.
Anybody who uses the adjective "retardedly" to describe something probably isn't bright enough to appreciate this movie.

to everyone who thinks this movie and its actor robert de nero doesnot deserver oscar and the fighting scene doesnot look real,I would like to say one thing;This movie was made on the base of 1941 to 1950 event and if we see the boxing of those times they look same unreal.And the main thing is this film is not about boxing but about the life of the boxer la motta.if anyone wants to watch this movie thinking it as rocky then plz don't watch.this movie theme is same as the movie "wrestler" where much focus in given on character rather than boxing.Robert de nero has given one of the best performance in history of movie.no one would have suited like de nero suited for the role.So I request everyone who doesnot like the movie,plz stop calling it a piece of crap and bad movie.if they don't like plz don't watch because people like them doesnot deserve to watch such masterpiece.
shareWhen you think of some of the most famous and renowned boxing films like Raging Bull, Rocky, Champion, The Set-Up, Body and Soul, Cinderella Man, The Hurricane,Gentleman Jim and many others, none of them are really realistic as the way a real boxing match actually is. First and fore-most, they are MOVIES and they do have to up the excitement factor to some degree. You could say the same thing for all sports movies whether the subject is football, baseball, hockey, soccer or car racing.

Why didn't you just turn it off when you saw it was Robert DeNiro onscreen, and not Jake LaMotta? You sound too stupid to have appreciated it anyway. That's ok, you probably go for a good Adam Sandler or Madea-whatever-that-guy's-name-is movie.

By far the most ridiculous "boxing" in a film that I have ever seen. At one point, LaMotta hits an oponent with like 10 straight left hooks. Lol. Cusses everyone out, slaps and hits people and then feels sorry for himself. Why was this movie made? Oh but the plot was sooo interesting right?? Wrong. One of the most overrated films ever made.
