Overrated Piece of Crap

Words cannot express how much I hate this film. It's depressing and not entertaining at all! I throw up at the thought of sitting through it again!

It was WAY too pretentious for me, but it seemed to follow suit of the types of dramas made at the time (The Deer Hunter, Kramer vs Kramer), that try to emphasize this sort of "realness" that ends up making it too exaggerated and too unrealistic and unrelatable at points. I blame "method" acting mostly, but who knows.

how is this movie in any way "pretentious"?

Raging Bull = Best movie

reply

The fact that you consider this movie pretentious says more about your intellect than it does of the movie and the filmmaker. I would like to know what you think of arty movies.

Jake LaMotta was an awful person but a saint compared to an internet troll

It's an amazing film, full of characterisation, comedy, action, sentiment, atmosphere. Beautifully shot in B&W, with a stellar performance by DeNiro. That's the words I'd use to express the majesty of this film.

reply

I agree... as much as I adore De Niro, I just could finish watching this film.

reply

I disagree, this is a masterfully crafted film about a boxers self destructive nature that features a phenomenal performance from De Niro, it's ridiculous to suggest this film is barely watchable.

reply

You really need to watch more film, and stop worshiping the crap the Italian mob props up with fake commenters.

reply

Overrated yes.
Piece of crap NO

reply

Eh... if anything, it is underrated.
It received no love at the time of it's release.
People at the time were all for uplifting film such as Rocky.
The Raging Bull aged like wine, it is until later that people see the masterful craftsmanship of the film.

reply

Yeah, until the Hollyweird Italian Mob propped it up like they do all their over-rated junk films.

reply

I think it is hilarious how many dumb kiddies comment on this movie being depressing and the character being unlikable. This movie is the most tonally perfect study of a self-destructive individual who achieves no redemption because he deserves none. Probably the ballsiest character study out there. Even Taxi Driver is more "enjoyable" than this. Raging Bull is brutal. Don't like it? Stay in the kiddie pool.

reply

Character study my ass!! No one acts like that in real life, and it's not realistic for sh1t!! Time to pack it up silly man, you were fooled by the Italian Mafia creating an artificial buzz about how artsy this movie is, but it's really just overdone, overacted junk. Face it!
