Big twist left out

A quick question that I have.

Decided to watch the first Alien, the directors Cut. After seeing many years the original version, during this pandemic I've wanted to see the other version also and saw something that blew me away.

In the original Alien, Dallas disappears without any trace and his wareabouts are left without an answer. But in the directors cut, we see that Ripley discovers the alien nest where Dallas has been impregnated with a xenomorph, near the body of Brett, who is becoming an alien egg (?).

Why did a big twist like this was left out?

Because Ridley Scott felt it slowed the pacing at the end

According to mr Scott it was because of pacing reasons. It was unfortunate because it left door open to Cameron's queen and giant ants BS.

BTW, its not a director's cut. Scott considers it merely an alternative version.

It's called a director's cut on the packaging, but yes, Scott has said the theatrical version is the one he prefers. He was able to make the movie the way he wanted to.

Nice, thanks for that!

But really, looking back, it changes a lot my perspective on things. Always wondered what happend to Dallas and somehow I was thinking he might had escaped somehow.
It was a really big reveal for me and sets up what the marines will find later and also, offers a closure with Dallas and shows more mistery around the alien.
