No DCEU fanboy cannot discredit this film for being "old", "campy" or "unfaithful to the comics". Learn to appreciate this film for being the blueprint for all other superhero films that came after this! Without this, you wouldn't have your precious TDK, or MoS.
shareI've never been into comics at all, but this is the movie franchise that I think of when I think of superhero movies. Batman second, Iron Man third. I tuned out once after the first Iron Man movie.
shareSuperman was portrayed as heroic and good, which is what a lot of people want in their heroes. This one laid the groundwork, but there were several better superhero movies later.
The Captain America and Wonder Woman films followed a similar theme, portraying the hero as possessing unblemished virtue and good will. Not everything has to be dark and gloomy and conflicted and morally ambiguous.
Really? With that shitty contrived ending? No wonder superhero movies are FLAWED if this is the template!

Superman the Movie was mindblowing for a 8 or 9 year old kid when I first saw it, though.
I like this movie but I can understand some who don't like it. I have a good friend who dislikes this film and the others that came after cause he prefers the later comics that have Lex Luthor as a smart and intimidating villain.
In this, he isn't very smart. Even without Superman in the film, he wouldn't have gotten away with his nuking of California and New Jersey because the authorities would have eventually caught him, Otis, and Teschmaucher. Especially with him buying all that worthless desert property. Plus he was already a wanted man.
My friend also dislikes Superman spinning back time and doesn't care if it was a thing in older comics. I myself along with my friend prefer the later 1986 version of Lex Luthor created by John Byrne who is a corrupt business man.
Although let's be honest, Lex isn't even at all like his comic book counterpart in this movie (or the others) so it's rather a moot point discussing it.
