Overrated

This movie was not funny to me and was overrrated. I think lots of other movies were funnier and I cannot understand why this one is viewed as such a classic. But everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

Animal House is certainly not overrated. It is a great movie and a forever classic. Now if you want an overrated movie, Forrest Gump. Talk about being overrated. Its amazing how dimwitted people are, to go drooling over a movie like Forrest Gump that totally blows chunks.

You blew whom?

Zing!

NOT Overrated. In fact the movie almost didn't get made. I went to the University of Missouri (which turned them down) and I also went to Kemper Military School in Boonville, just a short trip down I-70 from Columbia, which also turned them down. I don't know how the movie would have turned out if they had filmed it at either location. I am just glad it got filmed.

Classic. Of course what was funny then, doesn't seem to translate to the audience of today. Take Porky's. Still one of my favorite movies. Hell, even Ghostbusters may not be seen to some as good. Now a days people seem to be used to special effects, green screen or just randopm violence. I can't recall a movie in recent memory that was as funny as Animal House. One of my fav gags is when they take Flounder into the Dean's office and were going to have him shoot the horse. I love it as he walks away D-Day and Bluto whisper, "Loaded the gun with blanks, right?" "Right." Then their reaction when the horse dies of a heart attack. I can still hear Belushi saying "Holy S***." And "There were blanks in that gun." etc etc etc.

Funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnny!!!!!

We, under God, should be allowed to kill anybody who calls Animal House overated! I'm seriously willing! EVERY SLAPSTICK COMEDY TODAY OWES EVERYTHING TO ANIMAL HOUSE! SHOW SOME SMARTS, NOT IGNORANCE, AND SHOW SOME F-IN RESPECT! GOD I HATE RETARDS!

Well I'm a victim of circumstance!
I thought you call it your pecker?

I agree that the type of humor is not for everybody, but I thought it was funny as H--L!!!

reply

It's definitely not for everybody, a lot of the humor in Animal House (1978) is on the rude side and will offend a more sensitive audience. Rude behavior isn't everyone's cup of tea and some of the humor wears off with repeat viewings. Some of the actors perform well, Tim Matheson (1947 -), Karen Allen (1951 -), and John Vernon (1932 - 2005) for example, were very good. However, Donald Sutherland's (1935 -) portrayal of a libertine, pot-smoking educator in particular will not please anyone who can't get that stick out of their ass.

Growing up I used to think this movie was only good at best but after watching it last night I've thought it was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen and it's now one of my all time favorite comedies, I think this is one of the few movies that gets better with each viewing

reply

I have tried several times over the years to watch this and can not do it. Its just lame.

Too each their own!! I thought then and still think now that it was hilarious. I went to college, was in a fraternity and many things such as in the movie were very much right on. IMHO, it showed a side that is now fairly well gone and that is too bad. Times seemed much better then.

I'm amazed at what I'm reading on here.

This is one of the top three comedies of all time.

It's extraordinary how much brilliant material there is in this movie. I can name a dozen examples off the top of my head, but here's one: Otter finds that a girl has died in a kiln explosion and he plans to go to her sorority and get dates for him and his friends. When he asks for the girl, and after the gorgeous roomate tells him the bad news, Otter pretends to let it sink in and says "she was gonna make me a pot" (Get it? A kiln explosion?). It literally took me 3 viewings before I got this joke.
