This is as good a sequel as one could hope for

Jaws was a fluke. A young director stumbling into making a great movie. Making a sequel to a movie that good is a thankless task. And yet, Jaws 2 does a fine job of drawing the audience into the drama. The kids look and act genuinely terrified. My opinion of the movie gets better every time I watch it.

I agree that nothing was ever going to touch Jaws. I think even if Spielberg had come back that would still have been a tall order. If we hadn't had the greatness of the first one and the second had been a standalone I'm sure people would remember it more kindly. It certainly has some good moments.

Edit: Two weeks on from this post I just watched J2 on TV and feel the same as I said above. A 6/10 movie.

It was a very good sequel. The idea of another gigantic shark laying siege to the same coastline is a tad dumb but I did love the cast and the pacing.

It's a solid sequel, with a young cast and some good set pieces.
