The movie SOUNDS exciting, but really the bad guy is a just a seed pod.
The Thing (1982) and They Live (1988) did it so much better.
This remake is more psychological than the original which was heavy handed in its allusion to Red Scare/Cold War paranoia.
There is a brief stab at Conservatives when Sutherland insinuates that his girlfriend's husband (after he's been replaced) became a Republican and that's why he has no emotion anymore. But I think this movie shows that the terror of being replaced by hostile aliens can affect everyone, regardless of human nature's ability to survive.
Did you see the 1956 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers? It's a better version, in my opinion. I think the 1978 one is fine, but the 56 is superior.

I loved how the main character made a cameo appearance in the 78 version reprising his role for that one scene trying to warn everyone that it was happening before anyone else knew
I saw the old one on tv when I was about 10 and it blew my mind. I saw the 79 version about 20 years later and I liked it. But for both of them the viewer does have to be in a paranoid state.
shareI like them both quite a bit. This one's a remake done right, IMO. The themes are still intact, and the stories done in a way that makes sense for the time. Setting it in a big city raises the stakes a little bit.
