A 70's list...

For those of us old enough to remember, what makes this a quintessential film of this era and why? I'll start:

1 - Goldie Hawn's lack of underwear - This was a fashion trend in the late 70's much as thongs are today (but cheaper as you didn't need to buy anything!) I remember more than 50% of high school and college girls participating.

2 - Barry Manlow music - It appears not just in the title, but in the bar scene too. Barry, though he is still a popluar performer with some people, was huge back then. The biggest pop-music star of that era.

3 - Yellow VW - Okay, this was left over a bit from the 60's, but the cars were still highly popular in the 70's. I had an orange one, but without the convertable top.

Any other ideas?

Very groovy 70's items

-Quadraphonic sound (with hidden speakers!) Can't believe they used Staying Alive so quickly after Saturday Night Fever exploded. Gloria's stereo is an all-in-one like I had. Receiver + tape deck + record player on top. Chevy's cedar lined houseboat even has a reel to reel tape player with his stereo

-Leisure suits & tons of polyester in general. Jean jackets which carried over into the early 80's

-Brown/green/gold/orange....major colors for 70's decor

-Thick mustaches...thanks to Magnum PI also survived well into the 80's. Scotty's Gene Wilder curly hair

-No bra! Thanks Goldie

Spanish Fly. (He knew some people, from...Spain.)

Goldie Hawn's Eagles "On The Border" T-shirt, when she confronts Billy Barty (the midget selling Bibles). ON THE BORDER album came out in 1974

A traditional performance of "The Mikado" with Caucasian actors made up as Japanese, and nobody is offended.

Barry Manilow was the biggest pop star of that era? Really?

reply

Yes, he was and no one could figure it out even back then.
