A 70's list...

For those of us old enough to remember, what makes this a quintessential film of this era and why? I'll start:

1 - Goldie Hawn's lack of underwear - This was a fashion trend in the late 70's much as thongs are today (but cheaper as you didn't need to buy anything!) I remember more than 50% of high school and college girls participating.

2 - Barry Manlow music - It appears not just in the title, but in the bar scene too. Barry, though he is still a popluar performer with some people, was huge back then. The biggest pop-music star of that era.

3 - Yellow VW - Okay, this was left over a bit from the 60's, but the cars were still highly popular in the 70's. I had an orange one, but without the convertable top.

Any other ideas?

How about all the wood paneling and earth tones in Chevy Chase's house? Oh and that fireplace. I was just waiting for him to break out a fondue pot. I was also shocked he didn't have a water bed.

LOL -The bed! I agree. When I just watched this I thought sure that when Gloria sat down on that bed next to him she would sink into it and it would be a waterbed and I was surprized that it wasn't. It was kind of set up like a waterbed, though with the frame running all the way up to the top of the mattress on the sides!

And those sheet and pillow cases definately had a 70's look to them!

-the truck with a removable camper in the back

-the sunny yellows and greens of Gloria's apartment

-owning boa constrictors as pets (thanks Alice Cooper)

-pot-smoking policemen (even the term "pot")

-going to see old movies at a revival theater

-a sense of uninhibitted fun

Gotta love Gloria's luv bug! I had the exact same car in the mid-90's, yellow with black top, and mine was a '74 so they were definitely still around in the '70s.

One thing that stood out was the whole "free love" thing with Dudley Moore, the singles bar, and Goldie/Chevy hooking up so soon after they met. Nobody had to worry about AIDS, condoms, etc.

Ahh, the bad ol' days.....

I'd like to kiss you, but I just washed my hair.

Everyone says it was great, drugs, no stds and slutty girls.

If you don't believe in Jesus Christ and are 100% proud of it, put this in your sig.

The phonograph record player that the Cardinal has at the very beginning of the movie.

Also, I would be willing to bet, Gloria didn't get a Brazilian, landing strip, or even a bikini wax back then. She had more hair down there then a 80`s hair band.

Oh my god how I remember. Talk about feeling old.

1) The fern plants everywhere.

2) The wicker furniture. Everyone had white wicker, it was required. It went well with the wood paneling.

3) In the 70's there was only one interior decorating color...brown.

4) All the men wearing suits/shirts with huge lapels.

5) Goldie's wing flip hairdo. Everyone, their mother and their kids had that do. Even most men. LOL
