Raven scene. She is attacked for some time before the raven rips out her eyes, then she’s unconscious in a ditch. She comes to and realises she’s now permanently blind and stumbles about - that’s the worst part, realising you’re permanently blinded.
It’s almost a small mercy when the truck slams into her and ends her suffering, but it’s not exactly a pleasant death - she goes flying into the air, lands in the road and is driven over by the multiple wheels unit one crushes her head.
All of the deaths are hideous in their own way but that one feels like the worst to experience.
Oddly, the death that disturbs me most is Mark’s. He’s just a kid, and a loyal ‘brother’ to Damien. He tries to do the right thing and resist Damien’s temptation. His reward? An agonising brain haemorrhage. The way he squeals and then just slumps to the ground, dead, is chilling in its efficiency.
Such a nasty film. These poor innocent people suffer horrific ‘accidents’ for the crime of simply noticing that something isn’t quite right about Damien. The unseen force that kills them is the real terror of these films, and the fact that no amount of protective behaviour, praying, playing it safe can save you. You suspect something about Damien or unwittingly present any kind of threat to his ascent and get ready for a painful, nasty death.
