Jane Fonda's performance

What do you make of Jane Fonda's performance in this film?
Do you think she deserved the Oscar?
That was the year of Ingrid Bergman (Autumn Sonata), Ellen Burstyn (Same Time, Next Year), Jill Clayburgh (An Unmarried Woman) and Geraldine Page (Interiors).
Just wondering...

As much as I truly love, admire, respect this movie, I think Jane Fonda plays the same character in every movie that she has ever been in.

I think Jane Fonda was as brilliant as always, sure Ingrid Bergman was perfect in Autumn Sonata, but I still think Jane deserved her Oscar, she really developed her character in a very impressive way and she showed depth beyond what the script allowed her to show. Her last scene with Dern and Voight is just enough to give her the Oscar. Jon Voight also deserved his Oscar especially for the speech at the end which was brilliant.
