Imagine if the same show was made today

A Hulk TV series would not be trying to divorce itself from the source material, it would be filled with cool special effects, complex plots, long arcs and more supporting characters. It wouldn't have everyone thinking Banner is dead nowadays would be a five episode thing, it would have people knowing he's The Hulk which would lead to more interesting obstacles and storylines.

It would definitely have a higher budget, better special effects, and extended narrative arcs ... but would it have the same humanity, melancholy & pathos of the 1970s show? I'm not so sure about that.

Well if you gonna do a new TV show you have to make if different, you give people the exact same thing in a new gift wrapping they're gonna open it up say "Ah I've already got one of these".

Yeah, I liked the human interest & social commentary of the show, that David Banner was seeking help for himself, and along the way helped a ton of people. Nowadays the show probably wouldn't be anywhere near that, but I think that would be okay, if it was done right.

And yet, this series is still the best depiction of the human tragedy of being the Hulk.

I was thinking the opposite. A show made today couldn't hold a candle to the Bixby/Ferrigno version.

Can never get out of the Bixby/Ferrigno version, it's the pop culture image we can't change.

There are stuff in the Bixby/Ferrigno version that wouldn't work today, there's a lot of classic 70's TV style storytelling that would feel awkward and clunky in a modern show. The whole basic premise of everyone thinking Banner is dead would be hard to be effective all in the world of CTV, internet and smartphones, that's why if you gonna do a new version you have to go the newer approach you give people the exact same thing in a new gift wrapping they're gonna open it up and say "Dude already got one of those".

Banner would wear stretchy pants instead of jeans so he could save on his clothing budget.
