Wish they'd remake.....

I wish they'd remake the original trilogy. But not like they do these remakes now days. The story and scenes need to be exact same, just with our new technology.

Its the absolute worse thing i like about the originals. Fantastic story. Fantastic cast and characters. But the technology and visuals for the movie is so outdated and unrealistic. Same with star trek.

Disclaimer: just bypass any of the trolling comments below. They don't bother me and since they wanna waste people's time i like to join, indulge and waste they're time. Plus if it gets serious, i got bells, uv lights and "milk" to get rid of them. I always carry my troll survival kit wherever i go.

reply

you mean like with iphones and tesla cars and social media?

reply

Yeah, exactly like that. (Sarcasm)

I honestly dunno how to answer you. Idk if your trolling or completely outta touch with a real thought.

reply

You mean so that the desert scenes are enhanced like the new Mad Max films where you don't feel as if you're looking at a real desert, and Chewbacca's CGI instead of coming across like a real living, breathing creature, and everything looks shiny and clean instead of having a rusty, lived in quality?

Nah thanks.

reply

I dont think i said that. I dont remember giving full details. But if you honestly think the original trilogy looks good the way it is I feel sorry for you. For the time it was made, its great work, but it certainly doesnt come close to capturing the technology they would have in the days star wars was set in. Star wars is futuristic fantasy sci-fi, not 1977 basement with friends

reply

Well what do you want them to change exactly? Be specific.

And there's no doubt that this film looks dated now, the 70's aesthetic is undeniable, but for me that's part of it's charm. Again, it still looks and feels liked a lived in reality, and too many big-budget polished blockbusters now, simply don't. Everything looks digital.

And I don't agree about Empire. The visuals in that look timeless.

reply

You can do cgi that looks less polished. They just like to polish it too much in most cases. I dont want it overly polished either. I prefer costumes for as many creatures as possible and you'd have to cgi certain creatures though. Maybe they could get puppet creatures vs cgi for some. Chewbacca obviously costumed up. Props would and could be made to look way more realistic to the times. Lightsaber scenes were gosh awful.

Cgi is far better than outdated. Specially for a movie set in a future way ahead of now.

Im not going to list countless crap. Its not necessary. Its simple. Remake an outdated movie to look more of its time.

For the people that like the original, then watch it. No one would force you to watch the remake. Last i checked you have the right to watch what you want. I didnt say take all the old movies off the shelves. For crying out loud you people are ridiculous. You dont go to stores and they have 100% of just what you want in them. They carry tons of stuff for several types of people. Get off the high horse.

reply

Well there's a lot to unpack there but I can't be bothered with all your post so I'll just say this.

Considering the amount of prequels, sequels, spin-offs and rip-offs of this we've had since 1977, at this point a remake would be superfluous.

reply

Most people do take the easy road out. Specially when chewing on a old dirty sock after being put in their place.

Have a merry life at whatever it is you do.

reply

You sure put me in my place. You want a studio to put millions of dollars into a remake of a beloved film that plays out exactly the same but with updated special effects, common sense indeed🤣

reply

I said what i wished for. Never said it would happen. Just said a wish of mine. I actually think they'd make their money back. And then some easily. Some diehards wouldn't go, thats a given. But Lots would go to see the difference. Then the parents taking children because neither were around when originals came out. And so on. Lots would go watch.

They make remakes now to target all these people. Some remakes stay real close to original stories. So, im not entirely sure how your trying to spin this around as your sane and im delusional without any common sense. Next time think that through more. Besides the fact you said you weren't giving me more of your time, yet here you are.

reply

I agree. I also hope in the remake Obi Wan tells Luke the truth about his father while he is still a boy, since there will be no shock value this time

reply

I really dont want the story messed with 1 bit. Here's why.

People love the old films. They love the story and came to be content with whatever they didnt care for in story by now. If they change the littlest of things for 1 person, then others may now find a new fault. So, if you just keep story the absolute same, people only can complain about how they did or didnt do this or that with the new technology to create and film movie.

Of course there will still be people that say, "you remake the movie but didnt change certain aspects of story *they* felt should be changed".

reply

[deleted]

Changing the story though sometimes works. Look at Superman the movie and Man of Steel. Both are great in their own way

reply

Your the only person here that seems reasonable to conversate with. 2 people were trolls. And other guy likes old movies that look far outdated and hates cgi.

Don't get me wrong, i could find portions to change too. But im just thinking if you dont change it, people cannot complain about the story. Its the same as original. They can only complain that the story wasn't changed to their liking.

And even though your right sometimes story change is better, majority of time its not the case.

I just struggle watching the entire series and the outdated originals. Story aside from all 9, the visuals are so drastically awkward in the middle. You watch 3 visually more realistic, to 3 that are visually way unrealistic looking, bĂ ck to 3 visually more realistic.

reply

Your the only person here that seems reasonable to conversate with...

Hahaha 🤣 Well done Millsey!

You've won being the most sincere poster on a thread...

(Shurely a plot hole in itself?)

reply

I never said i couldnt be wrong

reply

Do you mean like air fryers?

Everyone seems to have them nowadays but they didn't exist in the 70s. Aunt Beru has that weird pot thing...

Tbh though I don't really think including air fryers and the likes would really improve the film.

reply

Hows trolling these days? Obviously its still a thing. Wonder when that'll get old. If your bored, do something valuable in your life. Heck, better yet, do something valuable in someone elses life. They would appreciate it a ton. Just maybe you'll feel good in your own life.

Giving you valuable advice is my good deed. I feel great about it to be honest. Dont get me wrong, im not a idiot, i know its a waste of my time and you think your smarter and better than me. But thats delusional thinking you have.

reply

There's only one troll on this thread buddy.

Everyone can see that...

Say what you mean instead of just trying to get attention and then maybe you'll get some proper replies...

reply

Seek medical help. Your unaware of what trolls are. I feel genuinely sorry for you.

Seemingly how it seems theres more trolls on these threads than actual real people, your "everyone can see that" comment doesn't carry a ton of weight.

reply

Dude, you are (not your, i.e the "a clown" which belongs to you) a clown. Multiple people on this thread have asked you to clarify what you meant. Seems pretty clear your intention was to seek attention so you could indulge in this kind of crap you are now doing with me.

And please, I'm not one to be a pendant but please start spelling "you're" correctly. It's annoying as just makes you look like even more of a clown given YOUR (not you are) nonsense...

reply

Oh yeah. I love to use all the different yours and theres. Really can get the grammar police going. I find that amusing. Sorry thats just 1 bad habit of mine. When i talk to people in person and use "there" or "your" I've never been stopped and asked which form of "they're" or "you're" im using so they understood. So in threads i just type whichever i feel like cuz people should know and understand just the same.

And i thought i just explained the "everyone on this thread" logic. 3 people is hardly enough for anything. Plus you gotta weigh in the audience and what not.

My original post wasn't written in some cryptic form. Its rather simple. So, i kinda don't see the point in clarifying. The old films are outdated. I wish a remake so they visually look better, realistic and to the date the movie is based for. But keep original story entirely. Not entirely rocket science, nor needing clarification.

reply

Btw, You're (I'll use right ones so you're panties dont get all knotted up) first response was a clown or troll response about adding air fryers. So, to me, thats not seeming like a real clarification question by you.

reply

I think the models and scenery of the originals look far more convincing than CGI.

reply

For the time its made i cannot argue that. And we do know they'd use alot of cgi now. I frankly dont mind certain amount of cgi. I dont like it over the top like they love doing

I'd prefer real props, scenery and costumes as much as possible mixed in with cgi for the rest.

The last 6 movies were far more realistic looking than the originals. Especially any action scene. Over the top cgi or not. It fits the timeline of it better.

I do find it interesting how people hate cgi so much, but are ok with overly unrealistic looking puppets.

reply

For me whether it be a model or a puppet they are at least "real". CGI isn't real. It looks terrible in the prequels anyway. I have seen some war films where they CGI just about everything and it looks like a computer game. It stops me from enjoying a film anyway. Each to their own.

In terms of a remake, some things I wouldn't mind would be a grungier take on it all. Not going for the kiddies and toy market anymore. No silly characters designed for toy sales. Think Game of Thrones in space.

reply

Hopefully we're talking beginning of GOT, not the last few seasons. I actually like the thought. Im still gunna stand behind dont change story, But if they were gunna change story, a GOT style would be great. Loved the first few seasons

reply

The general story of Star Wars is solid, yes more developed characters and better scripts would be great. Just a more adult orientated production and visuals. Darker and grittier overall. Han would probably take over as the lead character.

And definitely not the last couple of seasons of GOT!

reply

i actually agree

i am an uber fan of the first film,

but i would not mind seeing a new version

hopefully with better writing and acting

reply

Dont say this too loud. I don't want the trolls above to come down on you, lmao. Im ok with them. They dont really bother me.

I really do like the originals though. Great acting. Alot if good actors. Story just amazing. But every so often I'll binge watch the 9. And going from the first 3 in trilogy to the 3 originals, to the last 3, its tough watching the originals because man, they are so unrealistic and outdated visually. Not every minute of movie, but any action part of movie

reply

I wish they'd remake this thread but instead of words it was just blank.

reply

I don't agree with most of this. I would keep an open mind if they did a remake of Star Wars; it could be interesting. But if the only thing they did was update effects, I would be skeptical before seeing the final result.

First, because I think there's a charm to the old effects. I've never minded old movies. I enjoy watching Ray Harryhausen's stop motion masterworks in films like Jason and the Argonauts. It's fun to watch King Kong grab Fay Wray. And Star Wars has weird aliens like Jawas and Chewbacca, cool stormtrooper armour, and imaginative weapons like lightsabres. Look, if somebody came along and re-jigged the lightsabre effects so Obi-wan's blade doesn't look like it's flickering on-and-off (I know they did this in the special editions) that's fine by me. But there's no need to re-do the whole film.

Second, because a lot of modern effects don't stack up as long. CGI gets dated a lot faster than physical effects. Some don't. The best is when it's blended together (Jurassic Park's CG stands up) but a lot of it winds up looking old before the movie hits the DVD shelves (burly brawl in The Matrix: Reloaded...) So, if they did re-do Star Wars and contributed nothing but new effects, those effects probably wouldn't look slick even a couple years later. Maybe they would. I don't know. Again, touching up the original would be a better move.

Third, because modern cinematography kinda sucks. The MTV-style of quick cuts and shaky cameras often look like garbage. Now, I know you were just talking about the visuals, so maybe you didn't mean camerawork, but the dogfight at the end of Star Wars is a masterclass in cinematography and editing. It's perfect. There's no beating perfection.

Finally, because shot-for-shot plus new tech has been done before. You ever watch Gus Van Sant's Psycho? It can't come close to Hitchcock's original. Plenty of people say they hate black-and-white - too old fashioned and outdated - but GVS' remake of Psycho, in my opinion, basically proves that a tech upgrade on an otherwise faithful remake isn't a panacea. In fact, it could be a poison.

Look, I don't want to dump on you and call you names or get sarcastic with you. But you've got an idea here that doesn't seem like a good idea to me, and I hope I've stated well the broadstrokes of why I think that would be the case.

reply

I dont feel like this dumps on my thoughts. Its a well thought out debate of reasons you feel it wouldn't work.

I've not sitten down and thought of some well drawn out idea of how to remake the original. Some people seem to think I've got some huge idea of how I'd like a remake done. I just simply like how the newer movies visually fit the model of the era star wars is in vs the classic visuals that are mechanical and don't fit that era or universe ino. Its like comparing a 2d game to a 3d game and the game should be 3d, but its in 2d.

I love the actors, characters and story of the originals. Yes i could change some of it for my liking, but to me the movies are so old I've grown content to the story im ok with it. I dont need a change of story just to fit me.

Again, I've not thought about how or what, just imo and for my liking, a remake with our technology now days would make the originals much better imo. Its really a simple thought. And if people don't like it, they can go elsewhere. Or simply give a decent response why they disagree as you did.

I have zero problem if someone simply saying they prefer the originals and thats it. No elaboration needed. If they wanna explain and give reasons, thats great to. As you did.

But as you may have seen, a few people above gave sarcastic, clown-ish or troll-ish type responses. It was ignorant and unnecessary. Sometimes i ignore, sometimes i respond. Depends my day, time and mood.

reply

I didn't think you had every shot planned out, but you might have been thinking, "This would look cooler with CGI monsters," or you might have been thinking, "I wish this action sequence was shot more in the style of Avengers: Endgame than this 1970s-style razzmatazz." But, probably without the word "razzmatazz." I tried not to assume, but spoke to both potential versions of the remake idea.

I will say this: if they did remake it, I would kinda love if they hired Mark Hamill to play Obi-wan Kenobi. That'd be a bit of a mind-trip, and maybe too much of a stunt-casting that would overpower the show, but I think it'd be weirdly fun.

I try not to give mocking responses. Sometimes I indulge in sarcastic humour, but I try to avoid it. Even if I'm employing irony in a humourous response, I don't mean it in a nasty way, so I try to convey to the reader that I'm just having a bit of fun, not trying to be hurtful.

reply

Im glad you gave me that kinda credit, lol. Nope, just a simple wish it be remade always crosses my mind and thats as far as it goes. But if i heard they were remaking it, then id start thinking how should they imo.

I could come up with some good actors out there to play obi-wan. And also not thinking of some as well. Needing to find luke and han solo actors too. Again, i could come up with some great ideas of my liking. But others may not. Darth vader voice stay the same with james earl joins.

I have a huge sense of humor and sarcasm. Too much sometimes. But i always try to let the person know im just messing around, i dont mean to offend.

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving if you celebrate it
