"a year from now, it'll be an island filled w/burnt-out drunks"

Jack Prescott (the great Jeff Bridges) says that great quote just after they captured Kong while enroute to N.Y. CITY to Fred Wilson (Charles Grodin)....... What did he mean by "burnt-out drunks"?

reply

The natives of Skull Island must have known how to make alcohol by fermenting fruit. Therefore they would have become depressed alcoholics.

Great answer! Thanks for your reply....... I thought Jack Prescott was referring to the concern of "ugly Americans" traveling to that newly discovered island and developing resorts w/fast food establisments and beach high-rise hotels....... An "IBIZA" of the south pacific?

reply

Weren't there still other massive animals on the island like that snake that attacked Kong?
Seems like a sketchy place to vacation.

reply

Yes! Very true...... I forgot about the other large animals!

I think the idea is that Kong is a god to them. Once gone their lives will feel devoid of spirituality and thus drive them to drink. Kong was the magic and mystery of their lives. Prescott says almost exactly that in response to Wilson's implication that they had actually done the natives a favor by capturing him.
