Most Underrated Hitchcock Movie Ever.
Nuff said.
shareAnother nice movie, and I still enjoyed his last phase of films even though some feel as if he "lost his touch" (loved Topaz and Frenzy as well). While they may not be on the level of his British years of North By Northwest-Vertigo-Rear Window phase, they are still Hitchcockian and very good films.
Hitchock actually did a musical called Waltzes from Vienna (1934). It's funny and clever, and yet, Hitchcock said he disliked that film. I can't remember the main reason, but he made it sound as if he took on the project as a favor and wasn't into it. I believe Truffaut was interviewing him and was suprised, as am I. Hitchcock might be underrating Hitchcock here. With all due respect, Waltzes from Vienna is a good movie and worthy of mention, maestro. Plus, every great director should try out different genres anyways (Scorsese did his musicals as well).
I expected a whimper, but this was a funny little film. It has a lot of charm. I can get wanting Hitchcock's career to end on a grander note, but this is hardly a terrible swan song.
shareThe OP knows what he's talking about. Easily his best movie post "The Birds".
