To Those Who Want It on DVD...

I'm not sure if its at every Wal-Mart, but they have a $5.50 DVD bin with a bunch of movies. I got my copy of "The Street Fighter" as a part of a DVD called "Martial Arts Samurai Pack", which also features "Legend of the Eight Samurai", "Bruce Lee... The Man, The Myth" and "Kung Fu, Punch of Death". The DVD is published by Digital Value Entertainment, distributed by Hannover House. I picked mine up at one of the Wal-Marts in Valdosta, Ga. This is just a helpful direction for anyone who wishes to own a copy of the film (though it doesn't have a rating of the movies on the DVD, I do not know if its an R rated version or if its the uncut version. The movie is English dubbed, probably the original dub from when they first released it over here in America). Anyways, I figured I'd post a heads up.

At the Wal-Mart in Ephrata, PA, there's a martial arts movie pack that's floating around in the $5.50 bin. It's three or four discs (I honestly don't know), with I think 9 movies. My dad's picked it up as a Christmas present for me (don't tell him I know :P).

Anywho, this set includes The Street Fighter, Sister Street Fighter, and I THINK Return of the Street Fighter. I could be mistaken on that one.

I got The Street Fighter movies form Big Lots in a 50 movie pack for 19.99. There were some awsome movies in this pack. And for 20 dollars I got 50 movies you cant beat that at all.

Funny I just got that 50 pack from Big Lots in the last two days as well.

It was $19.99 plus tax. There are a lot a bad prints of the films on here. In fact, I would say that only 10 videos on here are worth it. The Bruce Lee movies are crap, that do not really have Bruce Lee in it. The Jackie Chan is his older, pre Police Story style, movies. The Street Fighters are the rated R versions, but I do not notice anything cut from the unreated version that I know that I saw last year at a kung fu movie marathon in Sacramento.

I would say get the pack if you REALLY like Kung Fu. It is not worth it, I would just to pick out the titles you like, and then find a better version of it. But that is in hindsight.

The Black Godfather is still pimp though.

You all overpaid! I picked this movie up in the "samuai 4 pack" today at deals for only a buck! the digital transfer is superd and its even in letterbox format!
I can never resist the dvd section at the dollar store, and always pick up one or two. a cheap hobby, but essential for any martial arts movie affectionado, as you will inevitablly pick up a good find, even if you have to get it in a package that has one or two flicks you already own, you come out ahead, hell its only a buck

Underminer...

I have a pretty good sized collection of the Digiview releases...the quality ranges from fairly decent to pretty bad. It's pretty much a crapshoot when you buy one, but since they're generally only $1, I've been known to take my chances. Same with Platinum...and I think they actually use a lot of the same transfers as Digiview...they have a lot of the same titles, also usually selling for $1. Same with Movie Classics and Front Row, two other dirt-cheap DVD distribution companies. I find these DVDs worth buying because I love a lot of obscure movies (particularly old-school horror and sci-fi B-movies), and I've been able to amass quite a collection at an extremely reasonable price.

One MAJOR complaint about Digiview, however...their DVD for Chiba's The Bodyguard is not only the terrible American release, it's also badly censored. Avoid at all costs.

My copy of The Street Fighter is actually a flip-disc with Return of the Street Fighter on the other side. I wasn't expecting much, considering the bargain price (about $6) and the fact that the distribution company is called Quality Special Products (I'm generally wary of companies with the word "quality" in their name...they tend to be liars). But aside from the ridiculous voice-over instructing me on how to use the menus (apparently, some people still haven't figured out how to use DVD players), the disc is actually not bad at all. The transfers are both of good (certainly far better than expected) quality, presented in their original aspect ratios, and the movies are both uncut. Special features are minimal, but that's to be expected. Overall, I recommend this DVD above most of the other bargain-priced versions.
