Remake in the works...

Good god no... Hollywood must be stopped.

http://www.fangoria.com/news_article.php?id=2463

Lets see what we've butchered already:

Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Day of the Dead (coming soon- looks like the worst thing ever)
Black Christmas
When A Stranger Calls
The Hills Have Eyes
The Ring
Ju-On
The Wicker Man
and thats only to name a few.

all that in the last several years. And now Shivers is being remade. This has to stop.

I dont like remade movies but... this movie have bad acting and bad directing. And the most important thing: I cant believe they are sex zombies because they get naked and it dont looks like they are trying to rape people... The problem is that if they remade this movie nowday they will not show naked people or sex violence neither because censure in USA.

reply

exactly! If Shivers would be remade, it wouldnt suit an American film company, as in USA, sex and nudity is seen very differently from Europeans, more problematic, as shown violence is pretty much allowed for kids, kids are not allowed to see a tit. Although I wonder if american kids dont remember sucking on their mothers while breastfeeding, maybe they get fake milk from a store. It s better if a remake would be done in Europe. But I would prefer no remake at all!

This is one of my absolute favorite movies and I would personally love a remake. The original is FAR from perfect and they could always update it.

reply

Also one of my greatest favorites. But do you think they COULD make a perfect remake today? I mean, satiric humour, isnt that extinct?

reply

No, I don't think they could make a perfect remake but I do think it can be improved upon. I'm not sure if there are any perfect movies out there (they may be close, but perfection I'm not sure is attainable when making movies).

I know this is a really old post, but for the sake of conversation...

I think the most successful of the recent barrage of remakes have been those that do something with the original content. Carpenter's The Thing or the Ring remake work because they add a new vibe, sense of style, or plot direction that works. The best are the ones that take just enough from the original, like The Thing or the Evil Dead remake. The best remakes are those that can stand beside the originals as their own artistic statements.

This is the kind of treatment ANY Cronenberg remake will have to get to succeed. I'm a huge fan because his movies have a sense of style and a weird logic that make them completely idiosyncratic. This is especially true with Shivers because of the era in which it was made and because Cronenberg was still learning how to direct. It's lightning in a bottle.

I'd love to see a reinterpretation of Shivers. Something like a Slither that plays it straighter could be really interesting. A reboot would fail harder than the Elm Street remake.

This movie is good the way it is, but I think I would see a remake if one were released out of curiosity. It would be interesting to see if the sexual content would be toned down or more exaggerated.

I know it's cool to hate remakes with alot of you that fancy yourselves "film experts" but most of the movies you complain about are actually better than the originals... especially The Hills Have Eyes. The mutants were not mutant enough and where was the scary that some of you claim the first one had? I don't think that bald guy that can wiggle his ears is one bit scary or intimidating. And of course we know Wes Craven makes nothing but family oriented, cheese. I know it's supposed to be unsophisticated to like remakes with healthy budgets but too bad! Because all I can do is be honest.

I hate remakes, no original horror film needs a remake. People worked hard to make these films and then Hollywood has to wreck them by updating them. They always throw in more crude humor, more swearing, more sex, cellular phone usage and cheap CGI, plus a lot of unnecessary gore. They even wrecked my favorite horror film, My Bloody Valentine, with a bad remake. It's sad, especially since there are so many new ideas out there that aren't getting any attention. What's wrong with people today? 😞

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake was pretty good.

Something new/interesting could be done with some of the ideas in "Shivers", but it would have to be by a indie studio. No way it could be remade well by a major studio. You can't do any part of the concept "safe".
