One thing is for sure, Mayor Vaughn would have accepted anything as proof of the sharks death. All he wanted was the beaches to be open.

That is true! Brody could have given him a hastily done 'artist's impression' in wax crayon and it would have been enough!

I don't think the two yellow barrels (however buoyant)...would have carried the combined weight of Brody, Hooper and what was left of the shark?
