Why hasn’t there been a reboot or legacy sequel in the Jaws franchise? The most recent film was Jaws: The Revenge in 1989, and even though it is considered bad, it’s been long enough that it should not be a factor in preventing another Jaws movie. Spielberg probably doesn’t have veto power over a new Jaws film if anyone thinks that is what is a holdback considering they made multiple sequels without his involvement. Also, a new Jaws movie could highlight innovations in visual effects with the shark and revitalize the Jaws ride at Universal.

I'd like to think the MEG franchise has taken this up a notch, so if Universal did go back to the well one more time, the shark would have to be MEG size and the movie would have to be completely finished and not rushed out just to fill the summer slot at the movies like they did with JAWS: THE REVENGE

I now want a horror movie in which they try to train a load of sharks for a horror movie and it all goes horribly wrong! 😂

You can’t train sharks.

Also, shark films using real footage are boring as hell. The real footage in Jaws was too because it didn’t match the animatronic shark.

You need an animatronic like Jaws (only better with no rubber teeth) or Deep, Blue Sea for close ups and CGI for other shots, like they did with Jurassic Park.

I'd enjoy if they did a ret-con sequel and pretended all the other sequels didn't exist. If they did that, and convinced Spielberg to direct and brought back Dreyfus I'd be interested. Otherwise I'd say don't flog this dead horse any more.

Spielberg still carries a lot of power at Universal and might veto a new Jaws sequel — though maybe not since his recent films keep bombing — but he’d never green light a full remake/reboot — nor should he.

Nope. Why mess with perfection? They tried it a few years ago with a shot-by-shot remake of "Psycho". Why? You cannot improve on the original. That would be like trying to remake "The Lord Of The Rings"! Anyone who tries that has more ego than brains

The problem is that Jaws demonised the shark for many years, which led to a steep decline in their population, which no studio today would wish to associate with, given the lobbyists & environmental groups of the 21st century.

Spielberg himself as expressed his regret on how the movie directly effected the shark population, and despite the utter ridiculousness of some of those in the 'environmental / globalist' movement, it is true that sharks got a raw deal.

Jaws is my all time favourite movie, but if it was ever to be rebooted or remade, I would keep it in the same time setting, or even further back, thus avoiding all the 'technology' sub-plots, such as the obligatory Tik-Tok videos being shot from the beach as the shark munches on Mrs Kinter's son.
