Was Quint meant to be acting erratically because he was drunk the whole time?

Question

reply

It's a possibility as he was binge-drinking at the time.

reply

Alcohol and PTSD are a terrible combination and you just know Quint would never seek treatment for either…’Different Times’ and all.

reply

No. I think all the alcohol actually took the edge off his crazy. Relaxed him a bit.

It was only when they got out to see and there was no time to sneak a drink that he really went around the bend.

reply

Didn't he mention having something to do with the atom bomb. Could also be radiation affects

reply

Well, the real actor was really acting erratically because he WAS drunk the entire time.

reply

Sad but probably true. I saw a making of Jaws documentary and Lorraine Gary said that Robert Shaw was a wonderful man, great actor and "drunk most of the time."

I'm sure you've heard the story where the actor insisted on doing the Indianapolis speech while intoxicated. They shot the scene but couldn't use it. I remember something about them using a few snippets from when the actor was really drunk and combining them with the take he did while sober.

Too sad. A great talent gone too soon.

I had a co-worker from Rhode Island. He told me his dad was a lifelong qhahog fisherman. He said his dad was the most impossible human being he ever knew and related him to Quint from Jaws.
