Horror or not ?
Everyone seems to put Jaws on their list of best horror movies. I don't think it qualifies as a horror film.

shareHow about a mixed-genre film? There's Action-Adventure - maybe Jaws is Horror-Adventure?
shareWhat's your take?
🇦🇺 All the little devils are proud of Hell.
Action adventure horror maybe describes it best. I just don't think it really qualifies because that shark could actually exist. I have the same problem with Silence of the lambs.
shareYou don't have a problem. You have a good point is what you have. I see it the same way.
Terror should be its own genre. Even then, I'd still say that J has aspects of terror, but is not primarily a terror movie.

Your statement implies that "horror" is synonymous with things that don't exist. A horror movie is that which is filmed with the intent of conveying the emotion of horror, and has nothing to do with existence in itself. Furthermore, movies that try to convey horror by way of something that is unlikely to exist are the most ridiculous of all, and as a result are more of a comedy.
For example, how am I supposed to relate to a ghost story when I've never in my life seen evidence of it. Today with social media streams more fluid than they have ever been, one would think there would be some evidence, but alas, there is nothing.
Negative, horror does not have to be fantasy, you're mistaken. Now if you'll excuse me.
Can't, I'm afraid. Matinee of Le Miz. Christ, I'll call you.
Not this again...
shareDid I disturb you? How much scintillating new conversation did I miss about a movie that came out in 1975?
shareNot at all, it's just been discussed many times before, but if you're trying to ignite new or scintillating conversation about this wonderful film, methinks you've got to do a little better than asking 'is it a horror film?'. Why not read some of the posts?
I am sure it has been discussed many times before. I decided not to count.
Anyway, I get the reality is much scarier argument but for classification's sake I still prefer to stick with supernatural = horror.
That's cool. You stick with that and I'll stick with suspense/thriller.
What's supernatural about a Great White Shark?
shareEh. I wouldn't really consider it a "horror" movie...I'd consider it more of a thriller or suspense more than a horror. The whole entire movie is building up suspense since we don't really get to see the shark a lot... If you want a horror movie though, my favorite has got to be the original Carrie or The Exorcist.
shareSo true . Not a horror film !!! Same with alien 1979 . There not horror !
shareAction/Adventure with elements of horror.

Horror even the sequels are considered horror
I don't know about that, but it's certain that the sequels are horrific.
;)
Overall, I don't consider it a horror film.
Metallica, Iron Maiden and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fan.
