This to me is a standalone film. All the sequels and prequels just feel like they are rehashing this movie over and over with lesser and lesser quality. This movie is a perfect example of sometimes less is more. They should stop milking this classic because none will ever hold a candle to this horror classic. Anyone agree?

What I like about this one is they don't really tell you anything about the family. You don't even know their names. Sometimes the unknown is scarier and more sinister.
Yep and the mystery behind the characters is what keeps me interested. I’ve wondered many times how this family operates on a daily basis and just how many people they killed but I don’t want a prequel to show me these things .

Agree. I’ve thought about what would have been the best way to continue from the first movie and I’ve never come up with a good story. Trying to bring Leatherface and his father into a sequel is difficult. The character of leatherface is just meant for 1 movie or else you just start doing the same thing over and over. You can only have him chase people with a chainsaw and cut them up so many times .. that leaves you with his father who is pretty one note. You can add in
More family members which TCM 3 did and it was somewhat successful but ultimately - they ran with the same basic formula as the other sequels. You can make a prequel and show the origin of the various family members but this is never as interesting as one might think. I honestly don’t want Leatherfaces childhood spilled out for me
For better or worse, I’m such a big fan of the original that I’ve never felt a need to watch any of the other ones. As far as I’m concerned, leatherface is still out there and Sally was never the same after her experience.
I’m sure some of the other films in the installments are great, and maybe I’ll check them out someday, but this is good for now.
