Perhaps it hasn't been mentioned yet, in that case: The Fall by Tarsem. It might not be as extreme as most movies mentioned here, but the imagery is simply stunning and surreal (even more so when you consider they did not use CGI (these liars...)).

Another great (uh, bad) trip is Enter the Void by Noé. Very ambitious. Or, same director, Irreversible. (I still prefer Seul Contre Tous, but that is a rather straight forward film).

Maybe early Lars von Trier may be to your liking too. I remember watching one of the Europa triology movies, and god was that *beep* up. Great.

Anyone mentioned anything by Alendro Zulawski?

You should check out a film of his called Possession, you'll love that I'm sure.

Everything by Jan Svanmajer, as everyone else has said.

Salo, without a doubt.

Also 'Bad Boy Bubby' is worth checking out. As well as a film called 'Amer'.

I recommend therapy. Seriously. I like those films too, but it takes a sick puppy. I speak from personal knowledge.

As to what you might enjoy, I'll recommend some directors, and let you pick your own films. I'll try to stay out of the commercial turf and stay in the alt fields.

Egoyan, Cronenberg, Jeunet, Bunuel, Gilliam, von Trier, Gondry, Lynch.

I'll probably think of some more later and add them, but this should get you started.

Yeah, a recommendation .... go and see a doctor :)

Chappaqua, Zardoz is pretty weird.

Zardoz is a good recommendation and it's a GREAT film. One of Boorman's best.
