Bonuels L'Age D'or aka The Golden Age (1930) is perfect for you. Zerkalo and The Trial (1960) should also be your thing.

And some surreal films you might like: Prenom Carmen, Détective, 8 1/2, Southland Tales, Aguirre the Wrath of God,

Somebody here has been drinking and I'm sad to say it ain't me - Allan Francis Doyle

The Fall isn't grotesque or weird like the other films listed, but it does seem to be influenced by The Holy Mountain.

Liquid Sky (1982) by Slava Tsukerman, early 80's NYC neo-electro???-scene, weird costumes and interesting soundtrack, there's UFO's involved too.

Wow, some really great suggestions here. I posted on this thread a couple of years ago and have seen a lot of these films since, but there are still MANY that I haven't. Glad to see this thread is still floating around.

Matthew Barney's "Cremaster" series

"Un Chien Andalou" by Bunuel and Dali -- also other Bunuel movies (mentioned here and elsewhere. I think L'Age D'or might be the most similar, although the major difference is that Bunuel was very deliberately anti-stylistic, and so his imagery isn't hyper real if his actions and dialogue are surreal)

Films by Ken Russell ("Tommy" comes to mind)

Fellini's "Satyricon"

Sun Ra's "Space is the Place"

"Dumbo", the delirium sequence.
