Things that would make for a GOOD remake:

1. Keep it SERIOUS not the Will Farrell comedy bullcrap. Think Batman Begins compared to the comedy versions of Batman.

2. Have the Land of the Lost be another universe or another dimension but keep actual time travel out of the story, do not have it be the "earth of the past" as time travel stories are filled with the logistical problems of paradoxes the "grandfather paradox" being the most famous.

3. Make it grittier. NO more perfectly done hair and perfectly clean clothes. They should have to become survivors making new clothing out of animal skins and stuff and have to "go native" a tad like the original planet of the apes.

4. Use serious special fx to make really fearsome sleestack and pakuni, The new Planet of the Apes and Avatar have set the bar for that kind of special effect.

I agree. If they could ever get a project like this green-lighted, I'd definitely watch. Unfortunately, they might have a hard time finding some studio to finance this project since Farrell's blasphemous version probably killed the franchise.

There is a new LOTL movie in the beginning stages. David Gerrold from the original show is writing it and there will be NO Will Ferrel!

reply

That's certainly great news. Hope it happens.

Any new regarding the new Land of the Lost project? I visited Gerrold's page and there doesn't seem to be any mention of this project. Any news from other sources? Safe to say this is in limbo? Would be a pity

reply

I haven't seen any reports of advancement on the project. When it was first announced at the SDCC a couple years ago, they said the project would actually kick off with a LotL book by David Gerrold, so his website/social media would be a good place to watch for any stirrings.

For what it's worth, the Kroffts did recently announce a deal to produce a reboot of Sigmund and the Sea Monsters with Amazon Studios, so at least they're still involved in getting their properties resurrected. I imagine that it can't be easy for them to convince financiers to put up money for a new LotL project after that last debacle.

I heard a little more about it. Something about Holly is now invisible and the voice of LOTL. Will is some kind of hermit living in a cave. You know, I'm happy with what we have from the 70s. Remakes pretty much always suck and it sounds like this wouldn't be any different. I'd like to see the seasons re-released with some minor enhancements and clean-up.

Can you provide a link to info about the now LOTL movie please?

Don't have a link. Kathy and Wesley have been talking about it. Last mention was at DragonCon a couple months ago.

I want the pakuni and Sleestack costumes to look a little better than the 1970's but not ultra frightening. The pakuni were pretty much comic relief on the 1970's show and the Sleestack while different were a foe that could be readily countered. I don't want to change those two principle ideas for the show.

reply

The best thing they can do is NOT have Will Ferrell in it. That alone would make the movie better by 100%

reply

make it a tv series.

I think OP has a great idea! However, I also agree the Will Ferrell version has set things back. I would say maybe with time but it has now been 12 years. If only we could manipulate the crystals in the Sleestak Cave!

reply

The Will Ferrell movie was bad but there was another series reboot as well but it was awful. Maybe this is not meant to be remade.
