If they did bring the tv series back again , same format ... who could play kolchak ?

No one could ever top darren mcgavin in the role ! but who ya think could do the role some justice at least ?

Tbh i really can't think of anyone myself , perhaps billy crystal when he was in his early 50's , he always struck me that he had the same easy going wisecracking nature mcgavin brought to the role ! .... But more recent actors , i can't really think of anyone suitable !

Well if you wanted to update to the modern narrative with a fast talking odd ball, Lin-Manuel Miranda would check a few boxes.

Steve Carell. He's been mentioned once already. He is the actor that immediately came to mind when I saw the title of your thread.

Primarily a comedian. He has been good in some serious roles like Foxcatcher.

Having just seen his brilliant performance in "A Scanner Darkly" I think Robert Downey Jr. would be perfect for the role...I was a huge fan of the original series, although it was not exactly the most appropriate fare for my eight-year-old self!
