Who else was wierded out by that sex scene?

When she took Hubbel home to her apartment and I realized he was just about to pass out drunk, I thought she'd just let him pass out in her bed and see him in the morning. Maybe they could have breakfast together, etc. Instead, she gets into bed with him and...OMG what the hell was she thinking?

Ok, she's known the guy for - what - five minutes? Sure, they had a couple of conversations and a dance in college, but then she didn't see him for ages. Suddenly, she's all ready to jump his bones. I just can't believe she crawled into bed with him and she let him screw her. I mean, she was all for it, but I just felt like she was slightly stalking him with that move. Nevermind the fact that he was never going to remember it all in the morning. (P.S. Am surprised that he even got it up since he was beyond smashed).

I guess I missed the bit where she didnt' like him in college to where she was ready to practically rip his clothes off. Couldn't she have at LEAST waited till he was sober to sleep with him? It just seemed uber creepy and pathetic to me - not the romantic way I'm sure it was supposed to be.

Any thoughts?

It weirded me out because despite having seen this movie a gazillion times (including when it was released) and owning the first half-dozen or so Streisand albums on vinyl, I've never realized until watching it today just how ugly she is (sorry guys). Her features suddenly struck me as extremely coarse and bloated and they always seem to be composed in some arrangement of self-satisfaction or other. Beautiful eye color, and her eyes make up well, but the whole picture? Something about seeing that face in that bed gave me the heebie-jeebies. Maybe it's due to having a large TV screen.

The scene was very creepy, almost as creepy as many of the comments in this thread. Just remember ladies, it's only rape when it happens to a woman.

Jeez, quite somemoaning on this board. Well I ama guy and normally I can't stand romantic movies. But this one is really good and stands the test of time. Everything is so topnotch with this movie : acting, directing, editing, photography and so on.

I thought the scene when Streisand jumps into bed with Redford great and quite funny and definitely not sad. It's her dream come true ! Go for it girl!

It wasn't supposed to be romantic. It was supposed to be pathetic and sad, which it was.

I was really weirded out by it, even in 1974. The guy is practically unconscious, full of alcohol, and she is using this opportunity to get what she's always wanted - sex with Hubbell. Turn the genders around and nobody would debate that this is rape with Hubbell as the victim.

I don't think it was rape because he didn't seem to mind. He didn't care at all, as a matter of fact. He was completely indifferent.

I'd never looked at that scene in quite that way - but you're right. That was screwed up. Whatever her seasons were, she took advantage of the guy - CLEARLY. Imagine a guy doing that to a drunk girl? What a messed up thing to do, Streisand - what the hell?!?!?! Now I will only think of her as a rapist.

You may be right, but if I'd had young Mr. Redford in my bed I might have done the same. He didn't remember it the next morning.
