This is one of my favorite Disney films because all the characters have this half-human-half-animal look to them. But so far, this is the only film I can think of with humanoid animals.
Can anyone else think of any other film with these type of characters?
I keep on mistakening movies like "The Loin King" of having this kind of style. I think cause the animals talk.*shrug*
Also, Movies like Madagascar, or Ratatouille don't count because the animals still play the roles as regular animals. Like living in a zoo, or being a pet, etc.
In GMD Ratigan was a rat, Fidget was a Bat and on of Ratigan's other henchmen was a lizard. As for the Rescuer films many of the animals could talk, where as others couldn't....seemed to be little consistency with that.
It seems like films like the ones you describe (humanoid animals, almost always biped and plantigrade) are in short supply these days. (Then again, big-budget, wide-release films with biped digitigrade animals are even more unseen.)
The film that looks to break this pattern is Fantastic Mr. Fox, due in theaters later this year.
I don't know about that in Fantastic Mr Fox they are still animals. The OP is talking about animals playing humans (or parts normaly associated with humans). I personaly can not think of another film other than Robin Hood.
Well, because I watched it not too long ago, you could watch the Hanna Barbera movie "The Good, The Bad, and Huckleberry Hound". It is one of their straight-to-TV films that I thought was really great. You won't find it on DVD or TV anymore (You MIGHT get lucky and find it on VHS one day), so you'd probably have to download that one.
Over the Hedge has anthropomorphic animals in - not sure if it's what you're looking for, hilarious film though - well worth seeing.
Also if you're a fan of human-like animals you could look into the Furry Fandom - basically a huge group of (admittedly rather geeky) people worldwide who create art and story that revolves around those kinda characters. Wikipedia has a good article about them.

Personally, I see the two being completely different. I never refer to cartoon animals (regardless if they are two-legged or four-legged) as "Furries", but by their proper definition of "Funny Animals" (or to make it easier, just "Cartoon Animals").
Regardless, some of the stories that the Fur Fandom makes up can be quite... strange.

Hahaha, very, very strange - but as the person below says, if you know even the smallest bit about the fandom you know how weird it can be >_<
And 'furries' are anthropomorphic animals - if they're animals and they have any human characteristics - bipedal, have hands, human facial expressions, speech - then they qualify as furries.
But I wouldn't go see a film and shout out "Oh look a furry!" if an anthro animal turned up on screen, they're just animal characters...and most likely a furry animal...but then you wouldn't call a whale character a smoothie.

Without getting into a big internet discussion, I'll just say that we'll let each other have our different views on the subject. But to me, they are not furries, nor will they ever be furries, nor will I ever call them Furries (why people started calling them that over the years when they were never meant to be called that, I'll never know).
internet discussions are fun, and it's not going to divulge into slagging off each other's mothers as you seem a mature person as am I.
So why aren't they furries to you? I'm not entirely clear of your view.
I mean people don't call them furry characters in every day speech when talking about the characters - just it's a general group name for a type of character. personally I just call them by their name, or if I can't their species, most just do that in my experience.

Trust me, I thank you for that too. It seems that anywhere you go on the internet nowadays, if you express your opinion just slightly, someone will go off on you. Heck, I had that happen to me a while back, and I wasn't even trying to argue o_O.
It isn't that I have anything against furries, so that's not the reason why I don't call them Furries. In truth, you could say that I am a furry myself; I draw a lot of fanart and such (clean fanart that is, I don't draw adult), and I chat with a couple of Furries myself. I just consider the world "Furry" to be people who draw art of animals (two-legged, four-legged, etc), perhaps go fursuiting, etc.
I think that perhaps I don't consider the two similar is because of some of the strange stuff people draw... you know, "rule 34". As soon as a film (like Fantastic Mr. Fox) comes out, Rule 34 pics start to appear a dime a dozen. Then people (who aren't Furries) connect the two, then the film in question begins to get a bad reputation. I went to the IMDB board of Fantastic Mr. Fox, and one of the first topics I saw there was something called "This is going to be every Furries wet dream".
So I think that's the reason I don't consider them that.
Yeah, one of my pet peeves is people that can't accept other's views...unless of course they're wildly extremely racist/sexist/anything-ist and ridiculous, but everyone has their views - and I just find discussions fun, and occasionly enlightening for myself, the other person, or both of us.
So to you the phrase 'furry characters' or 'furries' is synonomous with furry porn? So a character is only a 'furry' if it's shown in a pornographic way?
Or is it more by labelling a character as 'furry' people instantly think of the porn, thus giving a bad image to said character?
Or is it rather, (something else entirely in my view), for you the word applies to the members of the furry fandom, rather than the characters themselves?
And yeah I could tell you weren't opposed to furries as you weren't, and aren't, being negative towards them - which I should say I do appreciate ^^
But I have to disagree totally - I don't think the film is affected in the least, I've never known anyone ever even say they aren't going to see a film because there's too much porn of it online - However members of the furry fandom (This is getting confusing as i want to call them Furries >_<) do get a bad reputation for such. So the members of the fandom suffer the abuse, the film is totally unaffected....unless you happen to see the porn and it rapes your innocent childhood memories of said film, but then no one ever stays innocent, and if they do they have a horribly dull life XP

if you can get hold of a copy I think it would be worth checking out Animalympics...I saw this loads as a child and am still waiting on a R2 release so I can see if it is as good as I remember, certain bits have stayed with me through the years so I think it must at least be "alright"
