1.Sudden Impact...really like the revenge subplot and Harry is downright mean looking for answers, I enjoyed his interaction with Pat Hingle-reminiscent of their pairing in Hang Em High 15 years earlier, the coffee scene and his complaint about the sugar in his coffee and of course "Go ahead make my day" makes my #1.

2.Magnum Force...I've probably watched this one more than any of the others over the years and feel that Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry character really came into his own in this & Sudden Impact that wasn't quite there in the original. Enjoyed the 4 cop villains & many memorable baddies and who doesnt like Suzanne Somers in the swimming pool scene?? What keeps this one out of the top spot is the somewhat long & boring ending at the pier.

3.Dirty Harry...I enjoyed the original film like most but felt Clint was slightly one-dimensional with his character in the 1st film. Andrew Robinson shines as the sniper but this movie seemed a bit too black & white with the hero cop pitted against one bad guy, how many times have we seen this in movies previous & since?? The upside is that this one had the best ending in the series. Reni Santoni was my 3rd favorite partner paired with Harry.

4.The Dead Pool...perhaps the darkest sequel in the series with a vicious killer terrorizing the targets on his hit list but there was plenty of dark humor to enjoy in this one as well, Liam Neeson shines and I enjoyed Harry's partner as much as I enjoyed Felton Perry in Magnum Force but Jim Carrey was miscast and the improbable remote control car chase through the city at high speeds (how could the killer keep chase controlling it at high speeds at the same time without eventually crashing?!?) that really stretched the belief factor & sunk this one to #4 on my list.

5.The Enforcer...It's a shame John Mitchum wasn't Harry's partner throughout this movie or it could have earned a higher grade..Tyne Daly was miscast imo opposite Harry and the believability of the over-the-top villains and their weapons of mass destruction begin to wear thin before the movie is halfway over..

I agree on your points on The Enforcer, but I felt Sudden Impact was the darker movie of the series.

Right out the gate I will say I think all of them are ultimately worth watching.

1) Magnum Force

Harry Callahan vs corrupt vigilante cops to me was the most interesting conflict for obvious reasons. Though I see it more as an exploration of one of the character's facets than any kind of apology for the first film like I've heard others say.

2) The Enforcer

The humor seemed the funniest to me in this one, and I actually liked the relationship between him and his partner here. Again, I like how it touches on another side to the character a bit more.

3) Dirty Harry

Probably what I would rank first in terms of great film status, but ranks here in my personal preferences. It is great and entertaining, with the actor of Scorpio being the most compelling individual villain of the series IMO.

4) The Dead Pool

More lightweight in comparison the others to be sure, but I don't think it's the travesty so many paint it out to be.

5) Sudden Impact

This one is weird and kind of jarring to me yet still in its own way the one that stuck with me the longest after initial viewing. In that it felt like a movie of polar extremes. (TDP felt more consistent to me) In some cases it felt like the darkest of the series to me but in others the goofiest. At times it feels like an over-the-top 80's action film and others like an artsy European psycho-drama. Again, it's worth watching but just ranks the lowest for me personally.
