The audience clapping each time the actor/actress walked in
After awhile it got a little annoying how the audience clapped for a minute when each actor or actress walked in.

shareNot as annoying as when the characters do or say something funny and they're standing there waiting looking all awkward waiting for the audience to shut up so they can continue the scene...
shareLOl....that too.
shareOh noes, sitcoms with audience laughter! The horror!!!😱
Just stay in your momma's basement and never go see a play...
Yeah, it seemed as if every sitcom in the 70's had that. How annoying.
Why do they call 'em soap operas anyway? Those things are FILTHY!----Fred Sanford

At least it was just a respectful clap. By the 1990s, audiences were screaming, cheering, hooting and hollering whenever someone would come on set.
shareKramer got that a lot.
shareI read that after a while they would tell the audience in the warm-up to "please don't clap and cheer" for Kramer's entrance. It threw off their timing and it literally took up too much time. They need all that time for commercials ya know! haha
shareI can definitely see hiwvit affects the scene. He can't just stand there like a goof every time until the applause settle.
shareYou exaggerate. That only happened on Married with Children.
shareIt was indeed very distracting, but that's all we knew at the time – unless you watched shows like "M*A*S*H," which I didn't.
shareI think the crowd was responding to those stupid "laugh" or "clap" signs.
shareIt was standard, brief, and perfectly acceptable.
shareAt least it was better than a canned laugh track. Those were very annoying.
