Why is this board suddenly filled with comments in 2012?

For years the movie had only a few topics here. Now all of a sudden there's a surge of topics dating from 2012. What's up? Did someone famous mention the movie somewhere or something?

I think there was mention on the "Avatar" boards that this was a much better "environmentally-messaged" sci-fi film which may have prompted the influx of new posts. Other than that, i'm not really sure what would have prompted it.

My "#3" key is broken so I'm putting one here so i can cut & paste with it.

Maybe the fact that it's currently being run on Encore? (that's how I stumbled here, LOL)

I'm not sure how long they've been running it, though, so there could be another explanation.

I'm an Encore subscriber on DirecTV and can't find it. Are you sure?

I just caught it today on Film4 (A British TV channel). I remember seeing it about 20 years ago, if anything I feel it is so much more relevant today. I think Bruce Dern was exceptional, the scene when he knocked the droid over accidetntally was quite heartbreaking actually.

Because it's an eternal theme and record planet warmth past years....
Love the little real-life guy 'robots'.

Silent Running is also the name of the fifth studio album by British post-rock band 65daysofstatic. It is an alternate soundtrack to the film of the same name. It was originally commissioned by the Glasgow Film Festival at the beginning of 2011 as a live re-score performed by the band, and was released as an album later the same year. The band then went on to do a live theater tour, playing the re-score live as the movie was shown. Perhaps this helped to spur the resurgence of interest in and awareness of the movie.

A mashup of the album and movie can be found on YouTube:

40th anniversary of its release might be a possibility.

It would be nice if they could come out with a special edition that eliminates those annoying Joan Baez songs. I like the movie even if the premise doesn't make any sense. What would be the point of shooting the forests into space when domed forests could be created on the surface of the earth for a fraction of the cost? Still, I like Dern's performance and the drones are great. But when Joan starts singing, I scramble to hit the mute button.

I think those songs work great. I first watched this movie many years ago and I've always kept the credits song in a corner of my head.

I recently grabbed the UK blu-ray steelbook released by Eureka and I watched it last night. I really love this movie. The story doesn't make a lot of sense, but it is visually stunning and Bruce Dern offers a memorable performance.

It might have something to do with Mark Kermode on BBC radio being a big fan of the film and interviewing Trumbull a few years ago. I just finished watching it last night because it had been in my Netflix queue for that reason. I wasn't too impressed though I do not feel it was a waste of time
