This movie annoyed the crap out of me..

First off, let me say that Fatal Attraction is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's been one of my favorites since my dad introduced me to it when I was 8 (far too young to be introduced to it, but that's another store in itself...)

So I rented Play Misty For Me off of Netflix because the premise sounded like something I would like - and I did! However, I had absolutely no idea how Fatal Attraction was based on this movie, which is obviously was. I appreciated that, and was excited to watch it.

But, what the heck?! This movie moves like a turtle stuck in glue...

The reason why Fatal Attraction is 100X better (in my opinion), is that you could really feel how scared Michael Douglas' character was, desperately trying to rid the crazy Glenn Close from his life....he fought and fought ...

In Play Misty For Me, it was like Clint Eastwood was, at most, slightly perturbed that this chick was breaking and entering his home, making a fool of him in public, almost murdering his nanny...
Like, C'MON!!!! Give a little effort here...it was especially unbearable when he wouldn't even tell the cops in his home how crazy she is.

And what's the deal with the other girl? They about have as much chemistry as a snake and a sea otter. At least make that believable.

Anyway, just a rant. Wondering if anyone agrees?

You're right about the acting on Eastwood. But "Misty" has a much better storyline, filled with much more suspense and shocks. There's also lots of beautiful scenery. A film isn't just about the dialogue. You gotta give your audience some real meat to chew on.

lol I LOVE this movie. It's so retro and everything about it was a flash of how the era was, the colors, fashion, etc.

Both movies are very dramatic. Clint Eastwood's character was meant to be super arrogant and naive, but also a good guy type. I get your frustration though he was such a tool it obviously took quite alot to make him mad and do something about his new friend lol... Thats movies for ya!!

I found Eastwood's acting at times questionable. There were scenes with Toby when he overacted his dialogue, as if he was in a western rather than a drama.

Agreed. He has ZERO chemistry with Donna Mills here. Even the normally-good Donna is a poor actor here!
I've never thought Clint Eastwood could act. He has one note, almost one expression, and 2 voices: Normal & girlish whispering.
He acts exactly the same in every single role I've ever seen him in.

He's a decent director.

I agree with what you say about Clint Eastwood's acting in this movie. Most of the time he barely looks perturbed, let alone terrified, that this crazy, obsessive woman is fixated on him and making his life increasingly hell'ish. Even the fact that he lets her stay at his house after she slashed her wrists in his bathroom is not exactly believable. I mean, who on earth would do that in such a situation?! As you said, in Fatal Attraction you could feel how afraid Michael Douglas's character is, which obviously makes the more believable. Overall though, I think this film is quite compelling but maybe, for me, that has more to do with Jessica Walters' performance, which I think is very good, and the pretty coastal scenery! Still, Clint Eastwood could definitely have given a better performance and, in fact, his performance is probably the worst in the film and all the actors do much better jobs with their characters!

It's dated, has tons of filler and a wooden Clint Eastwood delivering corny lines, but wacky Evelen keeps me watching

It's more realistic -- FA was over the top, really.

I found the whole thing extremely predictable, same with FA. We all know that the psycho stalker is going to tie up the protagonist’s loved ones, possibly kill a cop, but ultimately be killed by the main character in a dramatic fashion.
