men stalkers vs. women stalkers

According to an academic study http://www.utc.edu/Outreach/TransformationProject/stalkingbehaviors.php
75-80 per cent of stalkings involve men stalking women. Also, if you just read the news every day, you ssee this is the pattern.
Yet there seem to be more movies about the opposite.
Why?
Is it because most of the writers, directors, and producers are men, so they find it more intriguing to think of a woman being that obsessed with a man?
Is it because women wouldn't want to pay to see a woman being terrorized by a man, it would be too scary?
Is it the Lucy Brown effect? Charles Schultz ("Peanuts") said he had Lucy bully and boss the boys because in real life bullies and bosses tend to be males, and reversing it made it more interesting.

At any rate, I get tired of women being portrayed in this misogynistic way, when it is so far from reality, and it is really they who are typically the victim of a male.

I'm not sure it's true that most stalking movies feature women stalkers. But from a story-telling perspective it would make a bit more sense, because women are perceived to be more harmless than men. Consequently, it would be easier for the stalker to get away with it, and more difficult for the victim to be believed. A woman being stalked by a man would be taken very seriously by the police, and it wouldn't take much for them to issue a warrant for his arrest. A man reporting a woman, however, might easily experience not being taken seriously by the police. Indeed, the female stalker could easily stage events and get her male victim in trouble with the law. A frightened, tearful girl is almost always going to be believed over some guy who seems to be angry with that poor little girl for some reason. So from a story-telling perspective, there is a lot more to work with if the stalker is female.

In my entire long life I've only encountered one stalker, and it was a woman. My best friend's younger sister was obsessed with John Denver and was arrested trying to break into his house. She was a total nut job.
